EnGenius ECS1528P Switch 1

REVIEW – Ever since I received my first EnGenius network switch, I have become a fan not only because their equipment works very well, and is reliable but also because they continue to support their equipment with frequent updates and because their support crew promptly responds to any inquiries or comments and addresses them professionally and effectively. While my network is for a home and home studio/office, I have a family of “heavy” users and over 120 devices (wired and wireless) on my network. As a gadgeteer, I test a lot of equipment and both my wife and I are social media content creators for different niches and various platforms, so a robust network works very well for us. Getting my hands on enterprise-based network equipment means that while I cannot and do not take advantage of the equipment’s full potential, I benefit from having everything I need handled very well. Now let’s keep going and add this EnGenius – ECS1528P Cloud Managed 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch with 4 SFP+ Ports to my network.

The EnGenius – ECS1528P Cloud Managed 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch with 4 SFP+ Ports is nicely put together in a metal case. On each of the short sides, there are vents. On the back, there is the AC plug and built-in cooling fans. All of the other controls, indicators, and ports are on the front. As seen below going from left to right, there is the Console port, the LED status indicator lights, the 24 gigabit POE ethernet ports with indicator lights, and the 2 SFP+ ports.

Performance

The EnGenius – ECS1528P Cloud Managed 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch with 4 SFP+ Ports is plug and play. I mounted it into my desktop rack and connected it to another switch using an active 10GB SFP+ cable. Once it was connected, I logged into my EnGenius Cloud management dashboard and added the switch to my dashboard.

Here is a short video of my process for adding the switch to my cloud dashboard:

As you can see from the photo below, “Everything is ok”.

Everything that I have plugged into this switch works flawlessly and fast. I will be adding several POE devices including EnGenius POE devices. I am still unable to truthfully measure the 10GB speeds because I do not yet have 2 !)GB endpoints with at least one having the ability to accurately measure speeds. However, as I continue my upgrades, I should be able to do so really soon. Regardless, all of my EnGenius gear has been reliable and the company continues to add updates.

What I like

  • Its operation is quiet
  • The all-metal case
  • The 24 ports are all POE
  • The 4 SFP+ Ports
  • The cloud-based management
  • It is rack-mountable

What I’d change

  • Nothing

Final thoughts

Like all of the other EnGenius gear that I have this EnGenius – ECS1528P Cloud Managed 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch with 4 SFP+ Ports is well built, runs quiet, and is fast and reliable. Well done!!
