REVIEW – As someone with two dogs, I’m always a little worried that my house smells like… well, dog. That paranoia was amplified a couple of months ago when our dogs got sprayed by a skunk. Now, not only am I worried my house smells like dog but that it also smells like skunk! When we had the opportunity to review the Provirtec Pawtent HEPA Air Purifier for Pets (AP-12), I jumped at the chance.

Design and features
Setup
Setup took just a few minutes. The package is clearly labeled, letting you know the cords and power adaptor are inside the filter.
Once you take those out and remove the package, this is plug and play.
The controls are all touch screen, and it comes with an extra pre-filter (be careful, I nearly mistook this for packaging).
Performance
Immediately, I noticed how quiet this air purifier is compared to others we’ve had. Most likely, you won’t even notice it’s on.
You can toggle between auto, sleep and pet-friendly mode. Pet-friendly mode will enhance the hair capture and the speed adjusts to the air quality. I’ve tried keeping it on pet-friendly mode as much as possible and haven’t noticed a big reduction in dog hair, but hopefully we will eventually.
The big number on the display indicates the PM 2.5 value. It’s blue when the air quality is very good, green when good, yellow when moderate, and red when poor. I’ve included the image below from Provertic because ours never moved from blue. It also shows the detailed specs on when it switches color.
You can also manually adjust the fan speed.
To dim the lights on the display, click to switch it to sleep mode or tap again to exit sleep mode. You can activate the child lock by holding it down for three seconds to enable or disable it.
The display will also notify you when the filter life is at 10 percent or less. It comes with an extra pre-filter, or you can clean the pre-filter by vacuuming it or rinsing with water. The rest of the filter should be vacuumed only (NOT rinsed with water or machine washed). A replacement filter is $29.99 on Amazon.
Final thoughts
While I can’t say for sure if this eliminated the skunk and/or dog smell completely out of my house, I can tell you that no one has mentioned it to me — and when I’ve left the house and come back, I haven’t noticed it either. So I will take that as a win! I’m also hoping it will reduce the amount of dog hair floating around, which would be a huge bonus.
It’s also quiet, easy to use, and from everything I can tell, it’s doing exactly what it says it will do.
