Focus Timer review – a better way to stay focused

REVIEW – There are a lot of things that I need a timer for. Most of the time, I just yell at a smart device or use my phone. There are plenty of times though that I will say that I am setting a timer, but completely forget. This happens most often with my kids… This Focus Timer has been so fun. It is very simple to use. Now my kids can set and keep track of their own responsibilities without having to continually ask how much time is left.

Design and features

Now that school has started again, I feel the constant need to remind my kids about all the other responsibilities, but I also don’t want to forget to let them have some fun. I love that I can twist this timer to any number of minutes that I need. It is such a cute and tangible item. My younger kids can watch the lines go down as they read, or do other homework. They don’t have to waste time asking how many minutes are left on the timer. When the timer goes off, it doesn’t jump scare anyone, and doesn’t have to break the focus that has been acquired during their time working. It probably could be a little louder on the loudest setting, but seeing as how the whole purpose of this timer is to help you focus, not watch the clock, it makes sense that the chime is on the quieter side.

The device itself is so simple. It’s adorable too. Shaped like an hour glass, and only one button, this timer is fun and easy. Push the button to turn it on then twist/rotate the timer. You will see the blue lines appear. Each blue line is one minute. After it reaches the top it turns into a yellow line indicating that there is a ten minute timer. You can keep rotating and adjusting up to 100 minutes. Once you see the number of lines you want for your timer, just flip the hourglass upside down and the time starts. Just like watching the sand fall, the lines slowly go down until the time is up. When the timer is done, the light turns green and the whole device lights up. You also hear a chime go off when it is complete. There are three different volumes. Just push the button to change the volume level, or turn the sound off altogether.

It’s such a small and simple device, but it has been a game changer. I’ve used it for taking turns on the games, reading time, homework time, clean up time, and even used it while I was canning peaches and pears. Plus I feel safe letting my little kids use this because there doesn’t seem to be any small or breakable parts that they can easily destroy.

I also received a cute little focus booklet with the timer. This booklet goes through a lot of the reasons for focus and how we can help ourselves. I’m not sure if this is included with every purchase, or just part of the product, but it is very well designed.

Final thoughts

I love this timer. I leave it next to my children’s desk and they know how to set the time, and don’t even need me to tell them how many minutes are left. It makes visualizing time and accomplishing tasks something that you can actually see. Plus, it’s cute.
