REVIEW – Every season comes with allergies. I have to keep my windows closed during spring and summer to keep the pollen, or grass outside where it belongs. I live in a more rural area that has quite a lot of farmers. Harvest time is the worst. The dust from digging, hay and alfalfa is everywhere, and often there will be smoke in the air from all the fires. I hate leaving my cats outside all the time, but my allergies are already overwhelmed and I can’t have them inside too often because the hair becomes unbearable. The Provirtec CritterBreathe air purifier is designed specially for people like me. A filter for everything, with a higher emphasis for pets.

Design and feature
Our last air purifier died a poor sticky death. It became so crusty and sticky that we weren’t able to turn the knob anymore. Because of this, I made sure that anything that I bought would need to be easier to clean. This purifier has a beautiful touch screen with a child lock. If nothing else was special on this purifier, this feature alone would have sold me. I don’t have to strategically place this anywhere so little people don’t touch. The screen is flat and very easy to wipe clean. The filter half is very open and easy to rinse. The outer filter is also very easy to replace. Pretty much everything on this air purifier is easy to care for.
The display is a bright blue, but it also has a sleep mode which turns off the lights. I don’t even know how many devices I have tape on because they are just too bright at night. This purifier doesn’t have that problem. There are four different colors for the bottom rim under the touch screen to notify what quality the air is. Blue is great, green is good, yellow is moderate, and red is bad. I am happy to say that I only had blue while I was testing this product, but sort of wish that I would’ve been able to show more of what the other colors would look like. I really thought that I would see a wider range of air quality in the different rooms that this was placed in. The numbers I got were a range of 4-27.
The design of the filter is geared toward pet hair. The outer filter keeps the hair from blocking the inner filter, and creating a barrier that the air can pass through, but not all the pollutants. There is a five-stage filtration system: pre-filter, nylon filter, h13 HEPA filter, main filter, and activated carbon filter. Each layer has a specific purpose that cleans 99.97% of the pet dander, dust and allergens. Pretty brilliant if you ask me. The pre-filter should be cleaned once a month, and can be done by using a vacuum. This filter should probably be replaced every three to four months. But that also depends on how often you use it, and the quality of the air it needs to filter. The 4-in-1 filter will last closer to eight months before you should replace that one. When the filter is around ten percent there is a little light on the display screen that looks like a red filter. After it is replaced you just hold down the reset button for three seconds. Easy peasy.

There are ten levels of adjustment, and with the touch screen it has become so simple, and dare I say fun, to be able to change the output. The line that goes along the bottom of the touch screen is your power bar. Tap the area you want, or drag your finger along the line to find the setting that is perfect for your situation. The purifier will remember the last setting that it was on, and start on the same settings when powered on again. There is also an auto mode that reads the room and will pick the option that is most helpful. There is also a timer that can be set up to 12 hours, child lock controls, and a whisper quiet sleep mode.
Final thoughts

I really enjoy this purifier. I may not have too many pets inside during the summer, I still have a lot of other people that sometimes act like animals. The stink of the diaper pail is noticeably less. I still have allergies, but I also feel that with this purifier I have less symptoms in the mornings when I wake up. I am sure that this will be on 24/7 during cold and flu season, and the pets are in more often.
