Rapid Rope 9

REVIEW – One of the most handy tools you can have in your toolkit is a solid rope. I’ve been in quite a few situations where having a length of rope handy saved the day. The Rapid Rope, today’s review, is designed to fit just that situation. It comes in a solid container designed to protect the rope and keep it ready for quick deployment. Read on to see how it holds up!

What is it?

The Rapid Rope is a compact container with a tightly coiled braided rope inside that deploys quickly when needed. It also includes a cutting blade in the lid for easy access.

What’s included?

  • Rapid Rope
  • Attached cutting blade

Tech specs

  • 120 feet of rope in the large container
  • 15.3 oz
  • 1000+ lb tensile strength

Design and features

The container that this rope comes in is solid and can take quite a bit of abuse. It’s a solid polycarbonate container with a hefty lid that screws on for access to the rope inside if you need to adjust anything or if you need to swap out the spool for a new spool after the first runs out. The lid has an incorporated cutting blade that is still out of the way so that you can’t accidentally slice yourself or anything else.

Rapid Rope 1

The rope itself is a flat, braided utility variety that holds a knot well and deploys quickly from the container when needed.

One of the things I love about the container itself is that it has several common knots and how to tie them. It made my inner Scout happy.

Performance

I really like this rope. It holds up well and is perfectly capable of holding my body weight. I was initially worried about the two half hitches pulling through, but once cinched down, they held great. The bowline knot held great. After being under tension, I was also able to untie the knot as well pretty easily, which I think was partly due to the flat shape of the line.

Rapid Rope 7

Due to the nature of the braided rope, it does has some degree of expansion as it tightens, but it definitely is up to most tasks at hand. I think in a pinch it could be used to pull out a stuck car, especially if doubled or tripled up. That’s probably not something you plan for, but in a pinch I think it would work.

Final thoughts

The packaging and setup of this rope is great. It’s definitely something I will keep in the trunk of my car for whatever emergent need pops up. You do have to treat this rope as largely disposable as it’s not going back in the container after you use it. The rope is still good for use elsewhere, but you do lose the convenience once it’s out. Overall, it’s a simple concept, but it works well and it’s an all-in-one solution. I definitely recommend.

What I like about Rapid Rope

  • Easy to use and deploy
  • Solid container that can take a beating
  • Though a braided rope, fraying doesn’t seem to be a big issue. The most fraying you’ll see is about a half inch or so.

What needs to be improved?

  • No easy way to tell how much is left in the container without opening it up and guessing. The clear container helps, but the line unspools from the center, which you can’t see unless you open it.
