REVIEW – A short time ago, I reviewed the Meepo Hurricane Bamboo electric longboard and loved it. Being a tall guy, the length and weight of it made me feel confident on it. Apparently, Meepo liked what they saw and offered up their V3 Max for review, and I gladly accepted. My youngest son loves the Hurricane Bamboo, so I thought we could ride together. What could be better than me on another electric longboard embarrassing my boy while we skate around the neighborhood? So, how does V3 Max compare? Check it out below.

Design and features
While the Meepo Hurricane Bamboo is designed for all terrain, the V3 Max is designed for a more urban environment. It has more traditional-type skateboard wheels. The front wheels are 90mm soft PU, while the rears are 94mm grippy motor sleeves. They are perfect for smooth asphalt and concrete surfaces, making them ideal for moving around the city.
Another difference from the Hurricane Bamboo is the motor setup the V3 Max uses. This longboard uses dual, full magnetic hub motors. The rear wheels are actually sleeves that slide over the motors that are bolted directly to the trucks. Meepo says this design allows for more torque and smoother acceleration without any type of maintenance that the Hurricane’s belt-driven system requires.
The deck is made from 8-ply maple with a bamboo veneer. This not only looks good, it gives the board the right amount of flexibility while still remaining strong enough for this behemoth of a guy to ride it. On top of that, Meepo has a cutout that acts as a handle for carrying the board.
The V3 Max comes installed with a 12s3p Lithium battery, which is loaded with 18650 cells, giving the board a capacity of 324Wh. Under proper conditions, my weight not being one of them, I’m sure, a rider should get upwards of 20 miles of range on a charge. Charging time is around 3 hours, so not a terribly long time to wait should you run it flat.
The remote that comes with the V3 Max is the same one that comes with the Hurricane Bamboo. It has an easily read color screen and fits well in your hand. With the remote, you can set cruise control, change the direction of the board, and change the braking modes and speed modes. There are 4 different speed modes, but trust me, mode 2 was plenty for me.
The V3 Max uses 7″ 45-degree RKP (reverse kingpin) trucks. That doesn’t mean a lot to me since I’ve never been a skater until trying out electric boards. From what I’ve gathered, these are designed for longboards because they stand taller and are for carving and turning.
Assembly, Installation, Setup
There is no setup required for the V3 Max as long as the batteries for the board and remote are charged. Should you need to tighten or adjust anything before you set off, Meepo includes a decent set of tools.
Performance
This board is great on the right surface. In my neighborhood, the streets are very pebbly. So, it’s not the smoothest ride. This isn’t a fault of the board. Even the Hurricane Bamboo had a rougher ride on the streets here versus a smooth parking lot. I definitely recommend riding the V3 Max on smooth asphalt or concrete. Regardless, the V3 Max is still a fun board and way too fast for my skill level past speed mode 2. It is smaller than the Hurricane Bamboo, which makes it easier to pick up and carry when needed, but I prefer the longer Hurricane since I’m 6’6″. I like the wider stance it gave me.
Final thoughts
If you live in the city and think you might like an electric longboard, I say give Meepo a chance. Both boards I’ve tried are well built, have long ranges, easily understandable controls, and long battery life. Plus, they’re just a lot of fun. I also think pricing is competitive from what I’ve seen.
