Design and features

The FEPPO Vacuum Food Sealer is blissfully simple tool. The vacuum unit that measures in at just under 8.5″ by 2″ by 2″ with a total weight of 2 pounds. There’s one control button that activates the vacuum action.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 21

Here’s how it looks in the hand. While the build is chunky, it’s lightweight design is surprisingly easy to maneuver about.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 22

The base is a removable cup, designed to collect any moisture from your food product before it gets trapped in the vacuum machinery!

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 24

The cup has a “max fill” line on the side to show you if you need to empty it after taking in too much liquid. The removable cup is easy to clean before returning to action.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 25

You’ll also find a USB port on the opposite side of the vacuum from the button. This unit will operate for about 80 minutes between charges.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 26

The FEPPO Vacuum Food Sealer kit comes with 30 storage bags in two sizes (7″ by 7″ and 9″ by 9″). These heavy duty bags are BPA free, odor-resistant, and washable for re-use.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 16

The bags feature a rubber one-way port that is specifically designed for compatibility with the vacuum. We’ll see how that works in a moment.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 17

Each heavy-duty and durable bag has a beefy zip seal that ensures leak-proof storage and repeat use.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 18

The bags feature a heavy textured back panel and a smooth front face for visibility. The material is thick and substantial, but still retains flexibility.

Operation is brainless & painless. You place your stuff in the bag and zip the seal tight.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 4

You then place the cup of the vacuum over that port on the bag.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 5

Push the button (which lights up and glows green) to start sucking the air out of the bag.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 6

Once the vacuum starts working, you just let it do its thing. It will continue to pull air out until there is nothing left, then stop automatically. You can see a little bit of that excess liquid from the chicken I was bagging in the cup.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 7

Once it’s done, you’re ready for the fridge or freezer!

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 8

If the bags aren’t fully sealed, you’ll know pretty quickly since the operation usually takes under 30 seconds.

Performance

The FEPPO Vacuum Food Sealer is ridiculously simple to use. I did read in one of the tips that you should try to dry out your product as much as possible to avoid any excess moisture in the bag. Here I had some huge chicken breasts that I was breaking down and portioning prior to freezing. I dried off the individual cuts with paper towels before vacuum sealing.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 2

I was able to get about 1.5 pounds of chicken in each of the larger bags. I could probably get more, but I am finding that you need to give the vacuum sealer some space to pull the air out effectively.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 3

The cup/socket design of the system makes it really easy to hit your target to start vacuuming. There’s really no guesswork in the process. Cover the port, press the button, wait 30-ish seconds until it stops, and you’re good to go!

Here’s one of those packs after I froze it and stored it for two weeks. There’s a little frozen liquid in there, but the seal is still just as tight as when I packed it. I particularly love how this opens up space in my freezer by reducing the footprint for storage!

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 11

Once you get your hands on a vacuum sealer you start finding all sorts of creative ways to use it. I will often by large bags of coffee for my daily caffeine at the big box store, for example, but the beans tend to get a little stale before I get through the whole bag. Here I took about 12 ounces of beans and a large bag…

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 9

… and now we have a vacuum-sealed brick of coffee that I could freeze or stash in a drawer!

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 10

I did the same thing with extra walnuts I purchased for a baking project. The vacuum sealing makes things easy to stack and store by reducing all of that extra air (in addition to extending the shelf life).

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 12

I’ve been playing around with produce as well, especially herbs. The pic below shows cilantro that all came from the same bag after 10 days. The cilantro in the vacuum sealer is clearly greener, and held much more of its texture upon opening than the stuff stored loose in the original bag.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 27

I am finding that success depends on the type of produce you’re dealing with. Carrots work great, for example, but broccoli needs a little breathing room for outgassing. I have been buying those English Cucumbers in large bags, vacuum sealing half of them, and then cracking them open after I work through the first half. I’m still experimenting to see what produce works best.

I was a little weirded out by the fact that you can clean and reuse these bags, but it works! I have found that the best method is to turn the bag fully inside out so that you can use soap & water to get into all the corners, then set them out on the counter to air dry after rinsing.

They seem to hold up pretty well. The one on the right in the pic below is a reused bag, while the one on the left is a fresh one. The used bag does pick up some crinkles and seams, but seems to be good to go for a couple of uses before it gets too funky.

FEPPO VacuumFoodSealer 15

I’ve also found that the bags hold up nicely to freezing, thawing and re-use. I’ve also seen some report that the bags can be used for sous vide cooking given the temperature tolerances and BPA-free construction, but I have not tried that yet. I would not recommend trying to clean the bags in the dishwasher, though. I would think that the harsh chemicals would destroy the integrity of the bags.

The 80 minutes of charge time lasts forever. Based on the specs and standard run time, you’ll get somewhere around 150 seals before charging is required.

If you’re thinking about long-term use, the one thing to consider is that the bags run between $0.50 and $1.00 per bag based on various price checks I did on Amazon. It looks like bulk buying is cheaper. I don’t see that FEPPO sells bag, but it appears that a number of sellers do sell compatible bags that will work with the system.

Final thoughts

I did not know I needed a vacuum sealer and now I don’t know how I got on without one. I do a lot of food prep and portioning, and I love the simple usability of this design. The bags freeze well and handle all sorts of different grocery products. The portability is great, and everything fits nicely in a drawer. So far, I have no complaints!

What I like about the FEPPO Vacuum Food Sealer
