REVIEW – We enjoy hosting groups for parties and gatherings at our home.  Since we have moved into our new house three years ago, the number of gatherings has increased.  All of these parties require food, and up until I received the Feppo Silicone Dish Warming Tray, that meant having cans of Sterno and unwieldy chaffing dishes filled with water to keep the food warm.  I received the warming tray just before Thanksgiving and got to give it a good test.  Read on to see how well I liked it.

What is it?

The Feppo Silicone Dish Warming Tray is a silicone mat with an electric built-in heating pad that can reach temperatures up to 100 degrees Celsius and 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

Design and features

The bottom of the mat is filled with raised silicone feet as seen below in the picture.  They raise the warming surface to the same level as the control panel to the left.  They also do a great job of keeping the mat from sliding around on my marble countertop.

On top of the mat, you will see an outlined area of the direct heating area.  The control panel resides to the right.

On the side of the control panel is where you would plug the power cord in place.   My one complaint is that the control panel is to the right of the mat if you want the mat and panel placed in a readable direction.  I wish it were on the left of the mat since I prefer people to serve themselves from the left to the right, and my plug is to the left side of the mat.   Of course, it is simple to put the mat where the logo is upside down, and the control panel is to the left.  Once the temperature is set, the maximum time it will stay on is six hours with no more button touches.

Here is a closeup of the control panel.  There are just three buttons.  They are all touch-sensitive.  The power button is on the bottom, and so are the temperature and timer buttons.  Above them is an LED display.

Pressing the time button multiple times will change the time display from 2, 4, and 6 hours.  There is no default time set, and it will automatically shut off after 6 hours of no button pressing.  The temperature button defaults to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.  Each button press will cycle from 122, 140, 158, 176, 196, and 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

Performance

As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, I used the mat for the first time on Thanksgiving day.  I had prepared mashed potatoes in a large six-quart pot and some green beans and mushrooms in a three-quart pot.  I wanted to keep them warm without constantly running them on low heat on my gas stove.  I set the mat to 140 degrees, keeping them warm and ready to eat for almost two hours.  I opened the lids and stirred the contents about every half hour.  Feppo does not recommend keeping containers sealed over the heat for too long as it could cause major heat buildup—all of the edges of the mat were very hot to the touch.  Later, after we finished eating, I heated the mat to its full 212 degrees.  The display indicates the current temperature as it heats up.  It reached 212 degrees in less than five minutes.  I could feel the heat by placing my hand above the mat.  There was no way that I wanted to touch it.

The mat is made of silicone and is very easy to clean.  Feppo does not recommend submersing the entire thing in water.  I used a damp sponge to wipe off the top and then dried it off before rolling it back up and storing it and the power cord in the included bag.

What I like about the Feppo Silicone Food Warming Tray

  • Easy to store
  • Easy to clean
  • Simple setup.  No Sterno or water-filling flimsy trays!
  • Heats up quickly and heats all of the indicated area.

What needs to be improved?

  • It’s not a con, but it would be nice if the control panel were removable and attachable to either side of the mat.

Final thoughts

I love the Feppo Silicone Dish Warming Tray.   I will buy at least one or two more for future dinner and pool parties.  I love not having to fill big aluminum chafing dishes with water and trying to light and extinguish cans of Sterno.  It has a consistent heating area, heats quickly, and is easy to clean.
