REVIEW β Today weβre taking a quick look at a new pen that is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Itβs the Mezmopen and itβs definitely worth taking a look if you like unique pens and/or fidget toys. Letβs go!
What is it?
The Mezmopen is a pen that doubles as a fidget toy.
Whatβs included?
- Mezmopen pen
- Magnetic tip
Design and features
Out of the box, the Mezmopen looks like an ordinary (although cool looking) pen. It features a sandblasted anodized aluminum body (also available in a titanium version). It will be available in 6 colors including the dark titanium version shown here.Β
What sets the Mezmopen apart from all the other pens in your pocket is the fact that you can pull it apart into two pieces. Yes, this pen uses magnets to hold the two halves together.Β
But thereβs more to just having two pieces. Itβs the tip extender mechanism. Itβs a spring loaded ball that pushes the pen tip out when the two parts are connected (watch my video below to see how this works).
Nifty right? Now you might be wondering what type of insert the Mezmopen uses. It uses standard D1 refills which you can easily find on Amazon.
To replace the refill, youβll need a pair of needlenose pliers to pull it out. I use my Leatherman ARC Multi-tool for this purpose.Β
Itβs very easy to pull out the old refill and then slide in a new one.Β
See it in action
As you can see by watching the video above, this is a fun pen to play with. Yes, it writes, but the real feature of the Mezmopen is the fidget factor. You can snap it back and forth, spin it in different ways, and annoy everyone around you π
What I like about the Mezmopen
- Magnets!
- Fidget fun
What needs to be improved?
- Offer a pocket clip so it wonβt roll away
Final thoughts
The Mezmopen is a pen for people who love to fidget with things. Since it uses D1 refills, itβs not the most wonderful pen in the world to write with, but I donβt think thatβs really the point. Itβs just fun pen to have around when you need to distract yourself from everyday boredom.
