REVIEW – For this year’s Father’s Day recommendation post I had the opportunity to review a set of Brunt Marin Soft Toe boots and they were fantastic. Brunt came back and opened up another opportunity to review some of their products and I really liked the look of their McKenna hoodies. I’ve been gradually expanding my sets of long-sleeve sun shirts for the summer, and they looked like they could be a great addition. Plus, an additional tumbler to keep my drink cold is always a bonus. Read on to see how they did!

The McKenna Hoodie is a light hoodie designed to provide protection from the sun and breathe even in high temperatures.

Design and features
These hoodies are awesome. They are some of the most comfortable tops I own. The lightweight fabric has some stretch to it, but is soft and very comfortable to wear around. The hoodie is a nice way to keep the sun off you neck without having to slather on even more sunscreen. I got the “Sunset” pack, which consists of a light orange hoodie and a light slate-colored hoodie.
Performance
We’re pretty much at peak summer here in Idaho at this point and these hoodies are working out great both outdoors and indoors. The fabric breathes very well and wicks the moisture away quickly.
After several washes, there is no sign of pilling or snags, which is a problem that I’ve had with some sun shirts. It’s designed for working outdoors, and while I don’t work construction, the yardwork and fishing trips I’ve worn them on have been very comfortable.
What I like about the Brunt McKenna Hoodie
- Lightweight and super comfortable to wear around
- Sun protection factor is great. I like to reduce the amount of sunscreen I have to put on wherever possible
- This fabric is great at wicking moisture away and breathing in the heat
- The included tumbler is great! The spout on it had a magnetic attachment which solves a huge cleaning problem that other tumblers have
What needs to be improved?
- Nothing. These are fantastic.
Final thoughts
A strong recommendation from me for these hoodies. They are super comfortable and very well made. When you mention a hoodie I automatically think of cold-weather gear to stay warm. These summer hoodies aren’t going to keep you warm in winter, but they will keep you cool and protected from the sun in the summer. I’m also thinking of using them as a base layer in winter because they breathe so well.
