REVIEW – I’ve used an air fryer for several years and appreciate its utility, speed, and convenience. I use it far more than my oven, it doesn’t turn my kitchen into a sauna in the summer months, and reducing the amount of oil I consume is a healthy bonus. Design and features
The HYS-AFO-01A arrived double-boxed.
The packaging is solid.
Included are a few accessories. I want to purchase a few more shelves (primarily for dehydrating) but could not find them. HYSapientia recommends covering the crumb and baking trays with aluminum foil for easy cleaning.
The case is made of strong stainless steel.
Buttons on the left control power, start/stop, time, temperature, interior light, and fan speed.
To the right is a control knob used to scroll through the cooking modes, adjust the time, temperature, and fan speed. Implementation is fast and effective and is much better than tapping buttons. Just tap a button and turn the knob.
A bright display on the top center indicates cooking mode icons (the one selected flashes), the cooking time, and the temperature.

“Off” is shown when the air fryer is sleeping.
An interior light activates when the door is open or 60 seconds after pressing the light button.
The HYS-AFO-01A has 12 different cooking modes. Icon meanings are in the following chart. I had a pleasant chuckle with the “sweating carrot” icon for dehydration mode :-).
Now for the fun part! My wife and I do a fair amount of dehydrating. She likes to dry and recycle tea leaves to enrich the soil in her garden and houseplants. You are missing out if you’ve never had dried pineapple and mango. The HYS-AFO-01A took about eight hours at 160° to completely dry them, an improvement from our stand-alone dehydrator, which took between 16 and 20 hours.
Hot dogs are perfectly cooked (12 minutes at 380°) using the “French Fries” icon (fry) setting. The results were comparable to my barbeque, only lacking the grill marks.
I’ve used a Breville toaster that cost more than the HYSapientia air fryer for several years. It has never failed to produce perfect toast and bagels. I wasn’t sure how well the HYS-AFO-01A would compare. I’m delighted to report my breakfast bagel was a crispy golden brown. Splendid job!
“Unfreeze” thawed some chicken wings and was complete in 30 minutes at 140°.
I marinated them, and they returned to the HYS-AFO-01A for rotisserie treatment. The spit rotates slowly, so cooking is complete and even. My Mrs. loves wings and was impressed with the results.
Pizza anyone? There are some nights I crave just a few bites. The HYS-AFO-01A does a great job curling the pepperoni, charring the cheese, and crisping the crust. I certainly couldn’t do this in a basket air fryer. Delicious!

Final thoughts
The HYSapientia HYS-AFO-01A is terrific. I’ve used it for almost every meal, making savory snacks, bodacious bagels, the best hot dogs, and rotisserie wings. It’s fantastic when I’m peckish for pizza! At under $150, it’s a great value, and I’m thrilled to reclaim the counter space of the three appliances it has replaced.
