Design and features
The Woozoo air purifier arrives in a large box. This is a big ‘un!
Styrofoam holds the air filter at the top and bottom to prevent shifting during shipment.
The main unit is bagged to keep dust and moisture out.
The Woozoo is made of sturdy plastic.
The bottom has casters that roll easily for moving the APF-45 between rooms.
At a tad over 30 pounds, it’s hefty. Iris USA was wise to include handle recesses on the sides to make it easier to carry.
The doors can be removed to access the fore and aft filters. They need to be removed from the bags before use. The Filters are H13 HEPA rated and can remove particles as small as 0.3 microns. That’s some serious air scrubbing.
Air intake is inboard of the filters.
Marking the date when the filters were put into operation is a good idea.
Mesh pre-filter covers prevent larger objects from being drawn into the filter. Tabs at the top and bottom hold them in place. Iris USA recommends occasional vacuum cleaning to keep air flowing freely.
A small door near the top covers the air quality sensor. It should be cleaned periodically for consistent performance.
The doors clip into place at the bottom…
…The sides engage with a satisfying snap in the middle…
…And the top is secured using three tabs. The front and back filter covers are identical.
Room air enters from the front and back and vents through the top. Iris USA recommends keeping about a foot of clearance around the Woozoo and about two feet from the top for sufficient airflow.
The cord enters the filter near the bottom and is not detachable.
The front panel includes the power switch, fan speed, mode button on the right and child lock, LED brightness, and turbo buttons on the left. A silver disk in the middle contains indications for changing the filters, fan speed, child lock, and modes, “A” for auto, “moon” for Sleep, and “rocket” for Turbo. A numeric display indicates air quality – the higher the value, the greater the particulates.
Fan speed is manually adjustable with LEDs surrounding the display showing the speed. Noise levels increased with each of the five levels, but none were excessively loud. Great job! The next five pictures show the changes in the display with each increase in fan speed.
The Mode button switches between Auto and Sleep modes. Automatic throttles the fan speed based on the amount of pollutants detected in the air. Sleep decreases the fan speed to the quietest mode and turns the button indicators off for light-pollution-free slumber.
The Turbo button sets the fan speed higher than level 5. I’m reminded of Nigel Tufnel’s amplifier statement in “This is Spinal Tap,” “These go to 11.” The rocket icon illuminates when turbo mode is active.
The LED button dims the illumination of the displays. Here’s the comparison:
Holding the child lock button for two seconds disables all of the other buttons to prevent Tommy the Toddler from fiddling with your filter.
What I like
- Powerful air filtration
- Easy operation and cleaning
- Simple filter changes
What I’d change
- Expensive air filters
Final thoughts
The Iris USA Woozoo APF-45 is very powerful, quiet, and easy to clean. The amount of air it cleans is impressive, the operation is intuitive and filter changes can be completed in seconds. It makes a huge difference in my home’s air quality and is a welcomed and valuable addition to my Gadgeteer home. Thank you, Iris USA.
