NEWS – Twitter may eliminate NWS severe weather alerts due to a new policy to control automated tweets.
My National Weather Service Office sent this tweet saying Twitter has decided to ‘limit’ automated Tweets as of 3/29/2023.
I encourage you to submit a comment to Twitter Support strongly suggesting they allow an exception for the National Weather Service severe weather alerts.
NWS sends automated Tweets within seconds of their emergency radio broadcasts to weather radios. These messages can be life-saving in the case of impending tornadoes, hurricanes, severe thunderstorms, floods or fires.
I can’t think of a better exception to Twitter’s new policy than weather emergency notifications.
To submit a comment to Twitter, open the Twitter app on your phone, tap your icon at the top left, scroll down to ‘Settings & Support’, scroll to ‘Help Center’, tap the hamburger menu at top right, select ‘Contact Us’. Choose a topic but I suggest ‘Feedback on Twitter’. A comment field will appear.
Hopefully with enough input, Twitter will allow the NWS to continue to send emergency severe weather alert tweets.
If you haven’t tried this feature of Twitter, see my article here. I get NWS emergency tweets faster than my weather apps.
