NEWS – The CircuitMess Ringo kit is supposed to be a STEM kit for kids but I think it would be fun for any nerdy geek like me. This kit has everything you need to build a real mobile phone. Just be aware that it’s not a snap-together type of kit. You will have to actually solder components to a circuit board and program it. Don’t worry though, it’s for kids ages 11 and up, and it is designed for absolute beginners in electronics. There are some issues though. First of all, it’s not clear which carriers you can use with this phone. The Amazon page says it’s GSM and the FAQ on the CircuitMess site does mention AT&T and T-Mobile. If you want more info, check out the kit on Circuitmess.com and Amazon where they are selling it for $171.95.

Does it come with a fine tipped soldering iron? Seems that would be the key tool needed.
John, I’m afraid that you’re on your own when it comes to the tools…
