REVIEW – When the iPhone with MagSafe charging came out last year, there was only one clear case with Magsafe- the Apple one. I found that case extremely slippery with buttons that were hard to push. Eventually, a few “no name” brand cases trickled out into the market. I tried a handful, and they were all disappointing. Months later, I dip my toes into a clear case with Magsafe from one of the biggest names in mobile gear, Speck.
What is it?
The Presidio Perfect-Clear case not only has magnets that work with Magsafe but it’s designed to protect against drops of up to 13 feet. It also features anti-yellowing type of plastic, treated with Microban to reduce bacteria growth.
Design and features
The box itself is pretty clever. The tab at the bottom allows you to slide the box out to get to the case.
The case itself is crystal clear throughout. You can barely make out the magnets behind the white “Q”.
After a brief squeeze, I managed to shoehorn my iPhone 12 Pro into the case. It was a little tougher than average- I suspect it’s because the case is pretty beefy, despite being clear. Note that the screen is protected with a raised bezel. The camera (on the back) is as well.
The clear case really hides the fact that this is a fairly robust case. This is not some thin shell. There’s some substance to this case.
To verify what I was feeling, I measured the width. The Presidio Perfect-Clear case added 6.45mm overall width, or about 3.23mm on each side. The increase doesn’t sound like much but if you like super slim cases, you may wish to look elsewhere.
What I like
- Durable construction
- MagSafe compatible
- Clear looks great
What I’d change
- The side buttons are hard to push
