crowdfund

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Hey Gadgeteers! It’s time for another batch of crowdfunding campaigns that I think are worth a look and potentially some of your hard-earned cash. This week, I have 1 Indiegogo campaign (no complaints about the platform please – this one is from a reputable company) and 5 Kickstarter campaigns. All but one campaign can be considered EDC gear. Take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Bolstr Utility Pocket

What is it?

The Bolstr Utility Pocket is smaller than a sling bag and bigger than a wallet. It’s sized to hold your EDC like your wallet, earbuds, phone, and sunglasses.

Why do I like it?

I like the Bolstr Utility Pocket because it appeals to my sense of minimalism. It holds just the essentials and not much more so you won’t be weighed down.

Bolstr sent me a sample of the Utility Pocket and I plan to have a full review sometime in June when I return from a vacation where I can really put it and their Carry bag through their paces.

The Bolstr Utility Pocket campaign ended successfully on 10/29/20 when they earned $16,000 of funding. You can still pre-order a Bolstr Utility Pocket starting at $47. After the Bolstr Utility Pocket campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2021. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

MagHolder: Magnetic Wallet Stand for iPhone 12

What is it?

MagHolder is a MagSafe compatible wallet and stand for iPhone 12 series and other smartphones with a reusable stick on metal plate.

Why do I like it?

I like the MagHolder because even though it’s not made of leather, I think it’s a better-designed MagSafe wallet than the one that Apple sells. First of all, it doesn’t cost $59 dollars, it can hold 2 plastic credit cards, and it has an easy to pop open stand that lets you position the phone in either portrait or landscape orientation. Hey, it even doubles as a grip so you won’t drop your phone while you’re walking.

The MagHolder campaign ends on 4/21/21 and they have already met their funding goal of $5,000. You can pre-order a MagHolder starting at $19. After the MagHolder campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2021. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Bowio | Read in Style

What is it?

Bowio is a booklight that features a replaceable or rechargeable battery.

Why do I like it?

I like the Bowio because it’s a gorgeous reimagined booklight. Most booklights only shine a light on the page in one spot causing glare, but the Bowio booklight is designed to shine an arc (or bow) of light evenly across the whole page.

The Bowio campaign ends on 4/9/21 and they have more than met their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a Bowio starting at $49. After the Bowio campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2021. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Bucardo Pocket Watch Accessory for Apple Watch

What is it?

The pocket watch case from Bucardo is an accessory that has been specially designed to turn the Apple watch series (4/5/6/SE) into a pocket watch.

Why do I like it?

I like the Bucardo pocket watch accessory because it’s retro cool and I’ve been fascinated by pocket watches since I was a kid. The only down side is that putting my Apple Watch into a case like this would mean that it would not record my pulse and other health metrics. But it’s still cool for special occasions or when you’re feeling nostalgic.

Where can I find more info?

The Bucardo campaign ends on 4/15/21 and they are working towards their funding goal of $25,000. You can pre-order a Bucardo starting at $75. After the Bucardo campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2021. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Hidn – The Premium Leather Belt With A Secret Compartment

What is it?

Hidn is a handmade and hand-sewn leather belt with a built-in secret compartment that can hold money, a small knife, and other tiny EDC items.

Why do I like it?

I like the Hidn belt because I love leather and I can appreciate the work that goes into leathercraft because I dabble in the hobby myself (check out my Instagram for some pics of my notebook covers). The Hidn belts look like they will last a lifetime and then some.

Where can I find more info?

The Hidn campaign ends on 4/20/21 and they have already met their funding goal of $688. You can pre-order a Hidn starting at $123. After the Hidn campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2021. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

The B.A.T. TRI-TOOL (bring anywhere tool) is a multi-tool the size of a coin and these features:
Scribe Tip, Flathead Screwdriver/Pry, Phillips Head Screwdriver, Scraper, Bottle Opener, Reflector, and Keyring hole.

Why do I like it?

I like the B.A.T. TRI-TOOL because it’s a tiny multi-tool for people who like minimalist EDC.
