NEWS – I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I was a kid, my parents didn’t have a lot of money which meant that we didn’t have a lot of toys. At least not the toys I really wanted, like LEGO. So my sister and I made our own models and miniatures using what we had at hand. I vividly remember using small cardboard boxes to create a “dollhouse”. Really, it was just one room, that I decorated with hand-drawn wallpaper, cardboard shelves with tiny cardboard books, a cardboard bed, a desk, and a chair. Was my model crude? Most definitely, but it was fun and it was creative.
Those memories of DIY modeling flooded back when I came across Cardkits. Cardkits are models of houses, vehicles, furniture, and more that you make with cardstock and glue. For some weird reason, the heroes of the Cardkit world are fish… but other than that, these models look like a fun way for your kids (or you!) to kill a couple of hours on a rainy day. They aren’t exactly inexpensive though with prices ranging from $9 – $29 per kit. If that’s outside your budget, do what I did and make your own.
