REVIEW – The Voamoko PD-016PT  USB -C PD3.0+QC3.0 Quick Charger (say that three times fast, heck say it once without getting tongue-tied), is a lot of power in a small package providing up to 90 W (maximum combined power output) to keep your devices powered.

What is it?

The PD-016PT (hereafter referred to as “the charger”) is a UBC-C PD and USB QC charger that can power your laptop and charge multiple devices simultaneously. All of this in a package smaller than a double CD case.

What’s in the box?

The charger comes in a simple brown box along with a power cord and a registration  / warranty activation flyer.

Hardware specs

The charger weighs 252 grams and measures 11.3 x 10 x 2 cm. This makes it smaller, but heavier than a double-CD case.

The charger accepts a variety of AC inputs: 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 1.5A.

The charger can deliver a maximum of 90W of power through a combination of

Design and features

The front of the charger features (from left to right) a power indicator (blue), an 87W USB-C PD port, and three USB 3.0 QC ports (type A sockets).

The rear of the charger sports a single “shaver cord” / 8 / infinity power cord socket along with regulatory and I/O information.

The overall design is both elegant and utilitarian. It has a Bauhaus inspired design aesthetic that even Steve Jobs could appreciate (though it would have probably insisted that it be monochromatic and have the regulatory information on the bottom of the case).

Performance

The charger was put through it’s paces powering my Dell laptop and my wife’s Thinkpad (separately) while also charging multiple iPads, iPhones, and various other USB-charging devices (mice, flashlights, etc.). We were able to power either laptop while fast charging both an iPhone 11Max Pro and an iPad (2018 model) and topping off a rechargeable USB flashlight.  We were also able to use the charger to power a USB-C docking station and output to an external monitor and also charge a wireless mouse in addition to the other devices utilizing the docking station’s additional ports.

The PD-016PT easily slips into pockets in backpacks and messenger bags along with its power cable and a USB-C cable for on-the go power. My wife now carries it as her preferred on-the-go charger (not that anyone is going anywhere nowadays) instead of the regular power brick that came with her Thinkpad as it fits in the Gear Pouch on the outside of her Waterfield laptop sleeve.

What I like

  • Simple
  • Elegant
  • Just works

What I’d change

  • Longer cord

Final thoughts

The PD-106PT is an excellent charger and a great value.
