When we were kids in school we had to label ALL of our belongings, which was a chore. However, labeling things can be fun, especially with tools like the Electric Carving Pen Tool. This engraving pen can be used on jewelry, metal, wood, ceramic, and glass and might be an ideal gift for the artistic person in your life (maybe that’s you). I’m thinking you would have to be somewhat artistic or at least have a steady hand when using such a gadget since the tool is a free-hand tool and whatever you engraved would be permanent (I imagine my engravings would look like a toddler’s writing, which is endearing when you are actually a toddler). The pen is 6.3 inches long, includes a spare engraving tip, and requires two AA batteries which are NOT included. If you are interested in the Electric Carving Pen Tool, you may find it through AccessoryGeeks.com for $12.99.

You are right, rotatory tools are damn near impossible to get the results they show by hand. That is why typically that kind of work is does by CNC. Certainly not using the light grip they show in the pictures. also not sure the speed/torque you are going to get off of 2 AA batteries. Possibly work with plastics, or soft clay, but I wouldn’t see results with metals.
I would use something like this http://www.harborfreight.com/electric-engraver-46099.html
Larger format, for better control, and more power.
