Leatherman Tread

You have the perfect watch, but what about the perfect watchband? The folks at Leatherman have thought of this and have come up with the new Leatherman Tread. The idea came from Ben Rivera (President of Leatherman) when he was stopped at Disneyland security for carrying his Skeletool. The Tread is designed to be worn as a bracelet with each link having at least one functional tool built into it. With up to 25 interchangeable tools including a bottle opener, box wrenches, hex drives and even a glass breaker, the 17-4 stainless steel Tread is a toolbox on your wrist. Although still in advanced development, the Leatherman Tread is slated to be released in the spring and fall of 2015 with an optional watch. No price has been officially announced but it is expected to run around the $150 – $200 price range according to one poster in the Leatherman website. There is also a recently posted video here.

  2. Want.

However my concern would be with the TSA-friendly-ness, regardless of their assertions.

Coupled with a smartwatch, tis could get me wearing a watch again, but it’s too pricey to leave at TSA if I get a cranky screener.

    1. The TSA is fairly specific on it’s list, and I believe this would be allowed. They don’t care about screwdrivers or wrenches, they care about knives and scissors. (Basically if it has a blade.) So this shouldn’t be a problem there.

(It doesn’t really look like it’d work as a watch band though – it’s a bracelet.)

      1. @DStaal check out the video which is linked in Larry’s post. They show an optional time piece. You probably just remove one section or “tread” and fit the watch in its place. I think this is an interesting concept but I’m not sure how easy it would be to use the tools since there’s not an actual handle.
