What you see in the picture isn’t a couple of camera lenses. It’s a couple of cameras! The Sony CyberShot DSC-QX10 Smartphone Attachable Lens-Style Camera is a fully-functional, fully-featured camera minus an LED viewscreen. Sony says this is the “first-ever zoom lens and sensor combo that clips right to your smartphone”. You can connect the camera to your iOS or Android “smartphone without wires, cables or cords thanks to One-touch NFC, and with built-in wireless streaming with WiFi, sharing your shots and videos to Facebook and Instagram is a snap.” You can snap photos or shoot video with the camera. You can leave it mounted on your smartphone for a more traditional camera “feel”, or remove it and hold it at arm’s length for the best selfies ever using the phone’s screen to be sure you’ve got everything lined up properly.
It has a Sony G lens and a 1/2.3″ (7.76mm) Exmor R CMOS sensor that takes 18.9MP stills or 1080/30p HD video. It has internal storage (Memory Stick Micro / microSD Memory Card / microSDHC Memory Card), and each shot is stored in the camera and the smartphone simultaneously. There’s a lot more to learn about the camera, which you’ll find at Sony’s website. The CyberShot DSC-QX10 is available to pre-order for $249.99. Shipping is expected on 9/25/13.

If you already have a point and shoot you like save yourself some money and pick up an Eye Fi SD card. It will do the same thing for a couple of hundred dollars less.
$249 bucks!As phones get 41 MP cameras
Sony gives us a 20 MP camera we attach
I was really interested in this until I realized it would be a pain to use. You wouldn’t want to keep it on your phone 24/7, so it would take at least a minute or longer to put it on, pair with it and then take the picture. That’s fine for a posed image, but for something spontaneous, forget it.
I have one coming, I figured its small enough to carry around instead of my dslr and will take much better shots than my MotoX. Also would like to use it to take remote shots since you can set it a distance away and see the shot through your phone. Main concern is how well low light shots can be achieved since it lacks a flash.
@Orlando Please come back and let us know what you think of it once you’ve had a chance to try it out. 🙂
I figure for spontaneous shots, they expect you to use the phone’s built-in camera. This is for when you want something a bit better, but don’t want to be carrying a whole other camera. (And like the integration with your phone.)
This is a lot better than I expected. The lens works well, giving a nice sharp picture. The mount has an adjusting screw to hold it very tightly to the phone, it will not slip!! The tripod and phone mount are good quality and work well. I have made much use of this
Just thought I’d share.
