The new tabeo tablet from Toys R Us fills the niche for kids who want a tablet computer just like Mom’s or Dad’s, but who aren’t old enough for the responsibility of caring for expensive, delicate devices.  The tabeo runs Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” on its ARM Cortex A8 @ 1 GHz processor with 1GB of RAM.  The 7” capacitive TFT LCD screen has a resolution of 800 X 480.   It has 4GB of memory, but you can expand that with microSD cards.  Its rechargeable lithium-polymer battery allows 6-7 hours of video playback, 10 hours of general use / surfing, or 35 hours of music playback.  Of course, it comes with plenty of apps  – 50 pre-loaded – and there are thousands of other apps that will be available in the tabeo app store.  And these aren’t apps no one’s heard of before, but games like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja that kids may have played on their parent’s tablet.  There are also educational apps to teach kids about letters, math, and science, and fun apps to let kids explore their creative side.  Kids can even read ebooks and watch video on the tabeo.  It’s also equipped with a front camera, WiFi, built-in speaker and microphone, and a G-sensor.  Parental controls make it easy to limit what your child is exposed to, and you can have up to eight sets of controls for different users.

The tabeo is shown in the protective bumper case it ships with (click image for a larger view), and there will be other bumpers, cases, and docks decorated with kids’ favorite characters available at Toys R Us.  The tabeo will be available starting October 21, 2012.  You can pre-order now at Toys R Us for $149.99.  You can see more technical specifications for the tabeo after the jump.
