I almost never use earbuds with my iPad 2 and usually just rely on its speaker. The sound from the iPad 2 is okay, but the speaker is on the back. The sound is directed away from me, and I usually find I’m holding my hand cupped around the back of the iPad 2 to direct the sound toward the front. The SmartSound iPad 2 case from Cygnett has a little “scoop” built in to the bottom to direct the sound to the front for you – resulting in a volume increase of up to 10dB, effectively doubling the iPad 2’s volume. The case protects the back and sides, and it’s compatible with the Apple Smart Cover. It’s available in black or in a translucent white for $39.99 at Micro Center in the US. Check the Cygnett webpage for world-wide distributors.
