Forget Bluetooth Keyboards. Try a Wired Keyboard With Your iPad

I’ve been trying to find the perfect keyboard case for the iPad and realized that the Apple Bluetooth keyboard and a stand is actually my perfect solution for the iPad.  Macally has something I hadn’t considered – a wired keyboard for the iPad.  The iKEY30 Keyboard for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch is a full-sized keyboard with scissor-key switches.  It connects to the Apple device via the 30-pin connector, and it receives its power from the iDevice.  The keyboard measures 12.2″ X 4.5″ X 0.6″.  Unlike the Apple wireless keyboard, the Macally keyboard has iOS device-specific function keys.  It comes with a stand that can support the Apple device in either portrait or landscape orientation.  It’s available now at Macally for $49.99.

The idea of a wired keyboard is very attractive. Bluetooth keyboards always feel a little sluggish.

But the idea of the keyboard pulling power from the iPad is disturbing. I worry that this would cause an excessive drain on the battery.

There should be a way to daisy-chain the two devices to another cord that would plug into a power source.

But I do like the concept.

I think this would be a great idea, and not waste so much battery like bluetooth versions do.

Unless there are LEDs on the keyboard, it was use NO POWER at all until you press a key. Bluetooth keyboards most certainly would use more power than a wired one.
