The Beacon universal remote control system from Griffin Technology bridges the gap between your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and your home theater equipment.  You’ll install the Dijit remote control app from the iTune’s app store and use Bluetooth to pair your iOS device to Beacon – no more tiny IR transmitters to plug into your iPhone.  Then the Beacon will translate the Bluetooth signals into IR commands for your A/V equipment.  The Dijit app has a large library of device codes already available to make setting up your remote easy, and there is a learn mode if you own a piece of equipment not in the database.  You’ll be able to control individual devices or define activities that will do everything needed to watch a movie, for example.  The Beacon is $79.99 from Griffin, and the Dijit app is free.
