At $1,700, the Seiko Presage HCC007 enters a part of the market where buyers can reasonably expect sapphire crystal, solid mechanical performance, and polished finishing. That means its “145th Anniversary Limited Edition” status cannot carry the watch on its own.

The HCC007’s strongest argument is its cobalt blue Arita porcelain dial, a treatment Seiko says is appearing for the first time on a Presage Arita porcelain model. Production is limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide, but the stronger reason to care is the dial itself and the traditional ceramic craft behind it.
That also makes the watch easier to judge on substance rather than commemorative branding: Are the porcelain craftsmanship, case presentation, and overall execution distinctive enough to justify the premium?
The Arita Porcelain Dial Is the Main Attraction
The dial is where most of the anniversary value is concentrated.
Seiko says the HCC007 uses a cobalt blue glaze traditional to Arita ware, with a radiating pattern at its center intended to emphasize shifting tones and depth across the surface. The company links the color to “Seiko Blue,” a shade it says became part of the brand’s identity during the 1960s.
More importantly, this is genuine Arita porcelain, not a printed texture designed to imitate ceramic. Seiko says the dial is produced under the supervision of master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi and made by Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team at an Arita manufacturer whose roots go back to 1830.
The production method also means buyers should not expect perfect factory uniformity. Seiko notes that high-temperature firing and handwork can create tiny dimples, dots, or subtle variations in coloration. Those differences are part of the material and process, rather than automatically being defects.
The Case Is Built Around the Dial
The HCC007 uses a newly developed stainless-steel case with Seiko’s super-hard coating. It measures 39.6mm in diameter, 12.8mm thick, and 46.8mm lug-to-lug, keeping the watch relatively restrained for a model centered on a dimensional porcelain dial.
Seiko says the case was developed specifically to enhance the dial’s sense of depth. That is a manufacturer design claim, but the supporting hardware is easy to verify: the watch uses a dual-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface and a see-through screw caseback.
The watch comes on a cow-leather strap with a three-fold push-button clasp. Seiko says the leather is sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries. That confirms the sourcing standard, although it does not necessarily make the strap more durable or more environmentally friendly than every alternative.
The 6R51 Is Capable, Not Exotic
Inside is Seiko’s 6R51 automatic movement, which also supports manual winding.
The caliber runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, uses 24 jewels, and provides approximately 72 hours of power reserve. Seiko rates accuracy at +25 to -15 seconds per day and includes a stop-seconds function for more precise setting.
The three-day reserve is useful because it gives you enough breathing room to remove the watch for a weekend without necessarily finding it stopped when you return. The movement is practical, but it is not unusually ambitious for the price, and its published accuracy range is broad compared with more tightly regulated movements available elsewhere.
That distinction matters. The HCC007 is not really asking you to spend $1,700 because the 6R51 is exceptional. The movement provides a solid mechanical foundation, while the premium is concentrated much more heavily in the dial, case presentation, craftsmanship, and limited production.
The Biggest Everyday Compromise Is Water Resistance
The HCC007 is rated to 3 bar of water resistance, which is restrictive compared with the 10-bar ratings found on many everyday mechanical watches. Seiko describes the model as splash resistant.
That limitation matters because the rest of the watch looks like something you might otherwise wear frequently. At this price, some buyers will reasonably expect more freedom around water.
The watch does include 4,800 A/m of magnetic resistance, but the overall package is clearly intended for dressier, lower-risk use rather than sports-watch duty.
Who Is the Seiko Presage HCC007 For?
The HCC007 makes the most sense for someone who values Japanese decorative craft and wants that craftsmanship to be the main event.
