If you are anything like me, you find magnets irresistible. When I was a kid,
I would take apart (i.e. destroy) toys, old appliances, etc, just
to get to the magnets inside their motors. Now that I’m an adult, I’ve been able
to control my destructive impulses and just play with my UberOrbs.
UberOrbs are not your typical magnets. For one thing, they have a unique
shape which just begs to be handled. You can click, clack, snap and swivel these
little guys to your heart’s content. They are great for stress relief or just
for fiddling with while on the phone etc.
They are also super strong. You sandwich your hand in between the orbs by
placing one magnet in the palm of your hand and another on the opposite side.
You can spend minutes / hours / days coming up with wacky tricks for these orbs.
But probably the most unique aspect of this toy is the sounds that they can
produce. They whir, squeak, smack, and buzz (click
for .WAV sound file). People will wonder what the heck you’re doing when
they hear the noises coming from your cube! Pets will freak out and kids will
never give them back once they discover them.
With a price tag of only $19.99, this toy is inexpensive enough to pick up
one for your best friend’s Christmas stocking and one for yourself!

Looks like fun, just don’t get them near your hard drive!
Check out the videos on the UberOrbs site. 😉
These will make a great stocking stuffer, but they can’t be purchased on their web site yet. Did you find them in the US, or did they send them to you for review?
You can buy them from Thinkgeek.com as linked in the review. They are a great gadget/gizmo online retailer 😀
Thanks for the tip. I got three pair of Uberorbs (one pair better end up in my stocking 😉 ) and a light saber for my son.
Great!!! 😀
It’s funny that you mention that you used to take apart things for the magnets inside. As recently as 2 years ago, I took apart a set of broken speakers to salvage the rare earth metal magnets (extremely strong) inside.
Meredyth,
I like you! 😀
Thanks again for the tip on these Julie. They were a big hit Christmas morning. We had three pair, and they really get wild when you start to gang them up. What amazed me was they were even more popular with adults than with kids. (I guess magnets hold more fascination for those of a more “seasoned” generation.)

You just made me remember that I had intended to give my UberOrbs to my Dad for Christmas. Oops! I totally forgot! It takes so little to amuse my Dad… his favorite thing is popping bubble wrap!
nothing wrong with popping bubble wrap.
They won’t mess with your hard drive or memory cards – but they will hose your old fashion CRT monitors in a heartbeat.
They have such a powerful magnetic field that they can magnetize the screen and mess up colors for days (if you’re lucky).
A large 21″ desktop layout screen + UberOrbs. A few degauses later and the screen was semi back to normal… but it never got colors back to perfect.
They are a blast – but can cause some expensive damage in less than a second around CRT’s
