
Robot vacuums have become good at handling open floors, but awkward homes can still expose their limitations. Raised thresholds can trap them in one room, low furniture can keep them away from hidden dust, and corners often need another pass after the robot finishes. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 6 Max is built around solving more of those problems without leaving as much cleanup for you.

Xiaomi combines a claimed 35,000Pa of suction with roller mopping, extendable cleaning components, retractable LiDAR, AI-assisted object recognition, and mechanical legs designed to climb unusually tall thresholds. Its Omni station then takes over much of the maintenance once cleaning is finished.
Those mechanical legs could solve a frustrating robot vacuum problem
One of the Robot Vacuum 6 Max’s most unusual features is its bionic dual mechanical legs. Xiaomi says they allow the robot to cross a single vertical step up to 6cm high instead of simply relying on its wheels and momentum.
That could matter in homes where raised transitions separate kitchens, bathrooms, balconies, and other rooms. A robot that cannot cross a threshold effectively turns one automated cleaning job into several jobs that require human intervention.
The 6cm figure comes from Xiaomi’s internal laboratory testing, and the company acknowledges that actual performance can vary with the environment. There is encouraging independent evidence, though: Computer Bild found that the climbing mechanism handled high thresholds convincingly during its testing.
It can lower itself to reach under furniture
The Robot Vacuum 6 Max tackles the opposite problem with retractable dToF LiDAR. When it encounters low-clearance furniture, its normally raised navigation hardware can lower, allowing the robot to enter spaces Xiaomi says are as low as 9.3cm.
The robot measures 350mm wide and 90mm tall with its LiDAR lowered. That potentially opens up areas beneath beds, cabinets, and sofas that robots with permanently raised sensor towers may not reach.
Again, 9.3cm is a Xiaomi laboratory figure rather than a guarantee for every piece of furniture. The company notes that real-world results depend on the environment.
35,000Pa sounds impressive, but cleaning results matter more
Xiaomi advertises up to 35,000Pa of suction, one of the highest suction claims in its robot vacuum lineup. That number was measured at the fan blower using an external power supply, so it should not be interpreted as a direct measurement of cleaning performance at the floor.
Fortunately, there is independent evidence to put the specification into perspective. Computer Bild tested the 6 Max with 100 grams of cat litter, cereal, and wood shavings across carpet and hard flooring. It collected 96.9 grams.
That is a more useful indication of performance than the suction specification alone, although the publication noted that competing models from Roborock, Dreame, and Mova performed even better in its testing.
Xiaomi also uses an automatic hair-cutting main brush and anti-tangle side brush. These are designed to reduce wrapped hair, potentially making the robot more appealing for households with pets or people with long hair. Xiaomi appropriately describes the system as reducing tangles rather than eliminating them completely.
Mopping may be the more interesting upgrade
Instead of simply dragging a wet pad across the floor, the Robot Vacuum 6 Max uses a roller supplied by 16 water outlets. Xiaomi says the system continuously moistens, scrapes, and washes the roller while cleaning, helping reduce the amount of collected dirt carried into the next section of flooring.

An extendable corner mop works alongside the roller and side brush to reach edges, corners, and furniture legs. Xiaomi says TÜV Rheinland certified the edge- and corner-cleaning system under its test conditions.
Computer Bild also found that the roller and supplementary mop worked well together, particularly around edges and corners. However, its testing found that the robot did not always deploy its two mopping elements as effectively as it could.
AI helps the robot tackle a mess
Three cameras work with the robot’s LiDAR-based navigation system to recognize obstacles and stains. Xiaomi says the system recognizes 327 types in total: 200 household obstacles, 80 furniture types, and 47 types of stains.

That recognition can change how the robot cleans. With particulate dirt, the roller can lift while the vacuum concentrates on suction. When it recognizes liquid, the brush lifts and suction switches off to keep water away from the dust compartment. After mopping liquid, the robot can return to wash its roller before making another pass. More complicated solid-and-liquid messes can be avoided, with a notification sent through the Xiaomi Home app.
Those capabilities sound useful, but they should not be confused with perfect object recognition. Xiaomi notes that performance varies according to the environment and object size, and AI recognition must be manually enabled in the app.
The station handles much of the maintenance
After cleaning, the Omni station automatically empties the dustbin and washes the roller. Xiaomi says washing water can exceed 85°C under its laboratory conditions, while drying air can exceed 50°C.
Xiaomi also claims up to 75 days between dust-bag changes. That estimate came from testing in a 120-square-meter home occupied by three people and one pet with daily cleaning, so households producing more debris should expect different results.

The robot has a 6,400mAh nominal battery, with a 5,800mAh rated capacity, and Xiaomi lists charging time at approximately 4.5 hours.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 6 Max is best suited to homes that challenge conventional robot vacuums, with high thresholds, low furniture, pet hair, and awkward corners. Its specialized hardware is less compelling in simple, open layouts.
