REVIEW – Replacing your mattress every 8-10 years can seem like an expensive hassle but coming from someone who blew past that guideline years ago and now has chronic back pain, I highly suggest figuring out a way to make it happen. I’ve suffered from poor sleep and back and neck pain for years, but other necessities kept pushing the mattress upgrade back to next year, year after year. Lucky for me, Bare Home needed someone to review their Bare Home mattress, and it’s been a delightful month since it arrived.

Design and features
The exterior cover of the Bare Home mattress is a very soft grey knit cloth Poly-blend fabric with cooling polyethylene fibers. I’m not sure if it’s this material or the foam structure of the mattress itself, but it was noticeably cooler than our aging memory foam mattress.
Speaking of layers, the graphic above shows the composition of their mattress. They differentiate themselves by including a thicker than average pressure relief layer, which is supposed to contour your body for better sleep and more comfort. The mattress also has decent motion isolation, though energetic night rolls by my partner are still felt by me and vice versa (again, it’s better than our old mattress).
The stitching and construction seem well done throughout; I couldn’t find any loose seams or major flaws.

The thickness of the mattress is much less than our previous one, which works better with most sheet sets. More comfort with less thickness is a win for us, and my shorter partner finds it much easier to get into and out of bed.
Assembly, Installation, Setup
The large and heavy box for the Bare Home mattress seems to have survived a decent amount of abuse in transit, luckily the mattress itself has a thick plastic covering that protected it from cuts and scratches. The box includes a QR code for an unboxing video, or you can follow the quick guide printed right on the exterior of the box.
It’s amazing that they can compress these memory foam mattresses into a shippable box that then expands to (in our case) a king-size mattress.
I was impressed by the complete lack of fumes when we carefully cut open the plastic. Our previous mattress took days to fully lose the chemical odors it initially had, but the Bare Home mattress was completely odorless to me from the moment I cut the plastic. The mattress mostly expanded within an hour and was ready for us to sleep on by hour 2. The quick start guide says it can take up to 48 hours to fully expand, but I didn’t notice any difference between that first night right after opening it and the following nights, it was great from the start.
Final thoughts
By 3 or 4 nights in, I was certain that the Bare Home mattress was a winner: my back pain was significantly less, and I was waking up to switch sides (I’m a side-sleeper) far less than with our previous mattress. I feel more rested and refreshed each morning, and when I lie flat on my back, it takes up to 30 minutes to become uncomfortable (I couldn’t lie flat for more than 5 minutes on the previous mattress). I wish I’d taken the plunge and bought a mattress years ago instead of suffering, but luckily this review opportunity has fixed that oversight on my part.
What I like about the Bare Home mattress
- Cooler than our previous memory foam mattress
- I noticed reduced back pain almost immediately
- Sustainability certifications and fiberglass free
- 100-night trial
What needs to be improved?
- Good deal with the sale price and coupon, but expensive if it goes up to “retail” price.
- Would like firmness options, just a bit firmer would have been perfect for me
