REVIEW– Some days I just wish my brain had a brain. I am always forgetting something. The Renpho Lynx smart ring makes forgetting acceptable. I no longer need to tell anyone or anything that I am exercising. I can forget to charge it every night, because its battery lasts for a week or more. I can forget my phone and watch when I exercise because the ring fills the need. Plus, it’s a small and classy accessory that won’t go out of style.

Design and features

Part of me thought that having a smart ring was overkill. I mean, I already have a smartwatch and a smartphone. Is having a ring really necessary? I actually love the smart ring. All my devices have a purpose, and while they can multitask, I think the ring makes a better fitness reminder than the others.

Before you even receive the ring, you will be sent a nice sizing kit. It has all the sizes, and fits just like the actual ring. It is important to note that there are little nubs on the inside of the ring that make sizing feel different than a normal ring. They also encourage you to use the index finger on your non-dominant hand. They don’t require you to use that finger, so if you prefer a different one, it will still work.. The instructions also say to wear it for 24 hours before sending in your size to make sure as your hand fluctuates that the ring will still fit.

First of all, the ring has a much better battery life. The first time I wore the ring I didn’t realize when it died. There isn’t any indicator on the ring saying it has a low battery. I try to remember to check my phone and see how much battery it has, but I do wish that there was some sort of indicator saying that the battery is low. The battery lasts at least a week, but up to 12 days. Which is so much better than my watch that I have to charge daily. I have gotten in the habit of picking one night a week, and just charging it the same time every week. Adding it to my routine makes it easier for me to remember, even though it could probably last a couple more days. On the days that I use the app to say I’m exercising the battery dies faster. I haven’t had it die faster than a week, so even when using the app excessively, the battery lasts quite awhile.

The health app on my phone and watch syncs with the Renpho Health app that the ring uses.. I love that these features can talk to each other and all the information can be shared in each app. The app also shows other compatible apps that can be synced up, such as Fitbit and MyFitnessPal. There is also an area that you can add in all your calories, and water intake. I haven’t explored too much in the food area, and have focused more on the fitness side of things.

The app displays cute little faces that reflect how well you did each day,, and if you go into the calendar you can view your whole month in these tiny little happy face icons. It’s pretty cute, and even on the days that I didn’t do too well, I still have a cute little face looking at me, encouraging me to do better tomorrow.

Another of my favorite features is the sleep tracker. I feel like I haven’t had a good night’s sleep since I had my first child. Now I know how much I actually slept, how often I was in REM, or deep sleep, or awake. It doesn’t change how I sleep, but I love being able to chart it out and see it in front of me. My mother recently was told she might have sleep apnea and I told her she should try my ring to see if anything shows up in her sleep cycles. That being said, it is not a medical device and should not be used in place of a physician. Still, I’m curious to see how different sleep interruptions would appear on the graph.

The ring itself is a titanium alloy and feels very durable. I don’t take it easy on any of my gadgets, so it’s nice to know that I can keep going about my day as usual and don’t have to worry about the ring being damaged. However, if you’re doing any heavy lifting it would probably be a better idea to take it off as a safety precaution. This ring comes in both black and titanium , and while I love the black, it does show a little more wear and tear.

Doing dishes is a daily thing for me, sometimes more than once a day. This smart ring is 5ATM waterproof. I’m not sure what that stands for, but basically it means that any water you encounter is going to be fine. If you’re going diving or other high pressure water activities, take the ring off first. Dishes, showering, water fights with the kids, sweat, swimming, it’s all good, and a great way to keep moving, have fun, and be rewarded with achieving your goals.

The ring also tracks blood oxygen levels, stress levels, and heart rate.. So many fun features for such a small item. I wish the app was a little more playful and interactive, but it’s fairly intuitive when it comes to checking out what data is being recorded. I tried to put it as a widget on my phone to see if I could watch how many steps I have taken throughout the day, but the only face it gave me was the one that said my weight. Call me crazy, but that’s not my favorite number the app has to offer.

Final thoughts

While there are a lot of different options for fitness trackers, I would highly recommend the Lynx smart ring. It has everything that my watch can offer and more. My kids aren’t constantly trying to steal it like they do my other devices, and I don’t have to constantly remember to be charging the ring. It doesn’t require me to carry my phone or have the internet, and I can look back and see my efforts have been recorded. But most of all, when I wear the ring, I am reminded to be active and be the best version of me. I don’t get distracted with other messages or games. I don’t have to remove it to do any of my daily activities, and I don’t have to conscientiously tell myself to do anything for this ring to work.
