Performance

Boya Mic 1 1

After a bit of reading, I was expecting much from the performance of the BOYAMIC 2, and overall, it did not disappoint. It combines premium audio features with a user-friendly design and an app for support. The Transmitters and receiver feel well built, and the display screen on the Receiver is great. Although I do wish that the transmitters also had display screens, it is not that big of a deal.

According to the specifications, BOYAMIC 2 is designed with a 32-bit float onboard recorder and a 90 dB signal-to-noise ratio. While these are technical details that I only understand on the surface, this device captures voices with exceptional clarity and detail. In addition, the AI-powered noise cancellation works well, eliminating ambient sounds that are even close by.

Boyamic has designed this system to support up to two transmitters and four receivers, allowing for seamless multi-device setups. This design adds great versatility and the ability to use it in many types of recording scenarios. It is compatible with smartphones, cameras, and laptops via the available adapters for USB-C and Lightning.

Another good feature is the long battery life. While I have not used them for more than an hour at a time, Boyamic states that the strong battery will power Transmitters up to nine hours on a single charge, even with advanced features enabled. The receiver offers up to eleven hours of operation, and the system supports charging while in use for uninterrupted recording sessions.

Overall, the BOYAMIC 2 is a great p[performer. The audio recording quality is great, and the built-in storage in the Transmitters means I can use them without the receiver and transfer the files later using the included USB-C cable. I did notice that each time I removed the devices from the charging case, I had to pair them again. This is not a big deal, but it can be an issue if I am in a rush to get set up for recording.

There is a companion Boya app that allows you to control and customize the sound. The app works once the Receiver is connected to the smartphone.

Final thoughts

The BOYA Boyamic 2 is a great addition to my collection of mics that I use to produce good audio. While other factors determine the success of the audio production, a good mic system is the place to start.

What I like about the BOYA Boyamic 2 microphone

  • Nice design
  • Compact
  • The charging case
  • The versatility of connectivity choices between USB-C/Lightning/3.5 mm
  • The audio recording quality

What needs to be improved?

  • The built-in clip on the Transmitter can be a challenge if I want to use the magnet to attach it to my clothing. The weight of the Transmitter makes it somewhat insecure.
  • I am not sure if this is only my issue, but I have to pair the Transmitters and Receiver each time I remove them from the charging case.
