Move the camera back to frame an interview, and its built-in microphone moves farther from the person you’re trying to hear. A wireless mic lets you keep the shot you want while placing the microphone close to the speaker. With the Insta360 Mic and Mic Pro, the buying decision comes down to how you record: do you want removable storage and longer rated battery life, or selectable pickup patterns and built-in memory?

The Insta360 Mic and Mic Pro offer different levels of control over wireless audio recording. The standard Mic is priced at $249.99 for a two-transmitter kit. Insta360 listed the Mic Pro kit at $299.99, down from its regular $329.99 price. Both support AI noise cancellation, automatic gain control, customizable E-Ink displays, and internal recording. The shared features cover plenty of recording setups. The differences give you a choice in how you capture sound and manage your files.

Insta360 Mic handles everyday recording

The Insta360 Mic uses a single omnidirectional microphone capsule that captures sound from multiple directions. This makes it suitable for vlogging, interviews, and presentations when the transmitter is positioned close to the speaker.

Each transmitter includes a 1.22-inch, six-color E-Ink display that can show customized graphics or identifying information. Assigning different graphics to individual microphones can help distinguish speakers during group recordings.

Two levels of AI noise cancellation reduce background interference, while automatic gain control adjusts audio levels when speaking volume changes. These functions can reduce the amount of manual adjustment required, although strong background noise may still affect the recording.

The standard Mic also supports 32-bit float internal recording through a compatible microSD card. The card is sold separately, so buyers who want an independent recording on the transmitter need to account for that additional purchase.

Battery life is rated at up to 13 hours per transmitter and 34 hours with the charging case. These estimates are based on controlled conditions with noise cancellation and internal recording disabled.

Mic Pro adds directional recording

The Mic Pro uses a three-microphone array rather than the standard model’s single capsule. It offers omnidirectional, super-directional, cardioid, and figure-eight pickup modes, giving users more control over which directions receive greater emphasis.

Think of the pickup modes as a way to choose where the mic listens. Cardioid prioritizes sound from the front; figure-eight captures sound from the front and rear. If you’re arranging an interview, that gives you more ways to match the pickup pattern to where people are sitting.

Directional pickup can help reduce unwanted sound from certain directions, but it won’t completely isolate your speaker in a noisy environment. AI noise cancellation is unavailable when Voice Focus, the super-directional mode, is enabled.

Each Mic Pro transmitter includes 32GB of built-in storage, removing the need for a separate memory card when recording internally. It also supports 32-bit float recording, which provides more flexibility when adjusting audio levels during editing.

The Mic Pro is rated for up to 10 hours of operation per transmitter and 30 hours with its charging case. These figures are lower than those of the standard Mic, with actual endurance depending on the recording configuration.

Wireless range and camera compatibility

Both microphones support wireless transmission at distances of up to 400 meters, approximately 1,312 feet, when connected to their receivers under unobstructed test conditions. Buildings, physical obstacles, and wireless interference can reduce the usable range.

Compatible Insta360 cameras can connect directly to the transmitters through Bluetooth without a separate receiver. Conventional cameras can use a compatible receiver through a 3.5mm audio connection, while supported smartphones and computers have additional connection options.

Both systems support connecting up to four transmitters to one receiver. This makes them suitable for recording group conversations, although obtaining four independent audio channels requires compatible equipment and output configurations.

They also support sending audio from two transmitters to as many as four receivers, allowing multiple cameras to receive the same sources. Mic and Mic Pro transmitters can be mixed on the same receiver. Check Insta360’s current firmware guidance before setting up a mixed-model system.

Storage and recording flexibility

The standard Mic relies on removable microSD storage for internal recording, while the Mic Pro provides 32GB of fixed storage inside each transmitter. Both support 32-bit float internal files, but that specification applies only to recordings made on the transmitters, not to the wireless audio feed.

With the Mic, you can swap in another card when you need more space. With the Mic Pro, there’s no separate card to buy or keep track of, but you can’t expand its built-in storage.

For long interviews or events, it’s a practical choice: carry spare cards for the Mic, or plan file transfers around the Pro’s fixed capacity.

Price and who should buy them

The Insta360 Mic costs $249.99 for a kit with two transmitters, a receiver, and a charging case. At that price, it covers the needs of vloggers, travelers, and creators recording straightforward interviews without requiring advanced directional controls.

Insta360 Mic Mic Pro 3

Insta360 listed the Mic Pro kit with two transmitters, a receiver, and a charging case at $299.99, down from its regular $329.99 price. The Pro adds selectable pickup patterns, a three-microphone array, and built-in recording storage. The price difference depends on current promotions.

For creators who don’t need selectable pickup patterns or built-in storage, the standard Mic offers a lower-priced option with longer rated transmitter battery life. Adding a compatible microSD card provides internal recording without moving to the more expensive system.

Choose the Mic Pro if you’ll use its pickup modes to adapt to different speaker arrangements, or if you’d rather have recording storage built in. If you’re happy with omnidirectional pickup and carrying a microSD card, the standard Mic gives you the shared recording and connection features without paying for those extras.
