REVIEW – The flood of Mini PCs continues unabated. I’ve personally reviewed a half dozen of these useful little PCs over the years, and while they keep getting better, the sheer number of models is starting to become hard to differentiate. I had to double check my notes and pictures multiple times while writing this review to make sure I wasn’t remembering something on another model, as they all tend to look and perform roughly the same recently. I have no shortage of niblings (nieces and nephews) who need decent school and play PCs, so I happily volunteered to take the ACEMAGIC W1 AMD Ryzen™ 7 8745HS Mini PC for a spin.

Design and features

The front of the ACEMAGIC W1 AMD Ryzen™ 7 8745HS Mini PC sports two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and a USB4 Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and the power button (with LED status light).

The exterior is what appears to be milled aluminum, with no ports or air intakes on the left side.

The top has an ACEMAGIC logo with a reflective finish, and a couple of AMD stickers.

Around back we have a generous selection of ports: HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 2.0, RJ45 LAN port, 4 x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, and the DC power in port. There’s also a large air outlet with cooling fins visible for the 54 watt air cooling system. You can run up to 3 screens simultaneously (HDMI + DisplayPort + DisplayPort-over-USB-C).

This cooling system also has an air outlet on the right side of the mini PC.

The whole package is pretty compact (though not the smallest I’ve seen), measuring in at roughly 5″ x 5″ x 1.6″ high.

On the bottom we can see the air intake, rubber feet, and mounting holes (the included mounting plate allows you to mount this to the back of a monitor if desired).

Assembly, Installation, Setup

Setup of the ACEMAGIC W1 AMD Ryzen™ 7 8745HS Mini PC was uneventful, a completely standard Windows 11 Professional install, which shows genuine activation after setup is complete. I performed a deep scan with Windows Defender Antivirus and it found no malware or viruses.

Performance

The ACEMAGIC W1 AMD Ryzen™ 7 8745HS Mini PC is nearly identical in hardware to the Maxtang T0-FP750 Mini PC I also recently reviewed, and benchmarks were within margin of error results compared to that system.  Just like with the Maxtang, the ACEMAGIC W1 AMD Ryzen™ 7 8745HS Mini PC is great for most users for media creation, productivity apps, and light gaming. The 780M integrated GPU is one of the better integrated GPU options (though it’s overshadowed by the recently released AMD Strix Point hardware – and I sure do look forward to getting my hands on future mini PCs with that chipset!). You can easily play lighter and older titles with no fuss and can even play the latest triple-A games with lowered settings and by using FSR (an upscaling technology from AMD that allows you to run games at a lower resolution and then have it upscaled to 1080P, 1440P, or even 4k).

The most demanding title I threw at it during testing was some Total War: WARHAMMER III, which stresses both the CPU and GPU during gameplay. I had to play on lower graphical settings but could maintain a very playable 30-45 FPS.

Here are some of the benchmarks I ran:

Final thoughts

acemagic w1 minipc 12

If you’re looking for a mini PC that can handle most workloads and don’t want to drop a ton of money, the ACEMAGIC W1 AMD Ryzen™ 7 8745HS Mini PC might be just what you’re looking for. I enjoyed both gaming and everyday computer use on this mini PC during the test period, ran into zero issues or problems, and will make one of my nieces or nephews very happy soon with this mini PC.

What I like about the ACEMAGIC W1 AMD Ryzen™ 7 8745HS Mini PC

  • Small footprint for good midrange performance
  • Fan noise is not too loud under load
  • Generous input/output ports
  • The 32 Gigs of RAM and 1 TB SSD is great for most users, empty SSD slot allows for easy expansion.

What needs to be improved?

  • New AMD hardware coming out is much faster (especially for gaming), but will likely carry a higher price tag
