REVIEW – When it comes to decorating my home and office, I’m the first one to admit that I have an eclectic style. I like all sorts of interesting things and these table lamps from EP Designlab caught my eye a few years ago when Garry Kolb reviewed their bulbs. At that time, they didn’t include a base for the bulbs, but they recently sent me two of them, so let’s take a look!
What is it?
The Vintage Lamps from EP Designlab are small one socket table lamps that can be used with their unique resin LED light bulbs.
Design and features
EP Designlab sent me two lamps and two bulbs. Let’s first take a look at the Nebula Table Lamp.
Included in the package was one Nebula bulb that has a resin housing and a traditional old-school threaded base.
The Nebula bulb might look old-school, but it has modern internals with a 1.4W 100-lumen 6000K LED with a 50,000-hour life expectancy.
The base included with the lamp is a beech wood cube with the EP Designlab logo branded into it. Can anyone see the issue with the base that they sent me for review? Yes, the logo is upside down. Oops! Luckily it’s not obvious since the logo itself is pretty light and blends in with the wood grain.
The lamp base has a fixed 2-prong 3.3ft electrical cord with an inline toggle switch.
The Nebula bulb looks really cool when it’s lit up. It has swirls of reds, oranges, yellows, and even a bit of blue at the bottom. Looking at it, I expect it to start swirling like a lava lamp, but of course, it doesn’t. I am happy to say that the bulb remains absolutely cool to the touch no matter how long you leave it on.
Next up is something a bit more steampunky. The Blue Vintage Round Base Lamp.
With this lamp, I received a narrow blue bulb and a vintage lamp (looking) base.
The lamp itself has a round wooden base that I believe is beech, just like the cube base. The fixture is metal that has been finished to look like copper or brass with a patina.
Instead of a short white cord, it has a 6.6ft long black cord.
The blue bulb has different shades of blue swirls that remind me of the ocean or a summer day.
Either lamp makes a fun accent piece on a table or shelf, and if you don’t care for the colors shown here, you can choose from other EP Designlab bulbs that match your aesthetic.
What I like
- Unique
- Doesn’t get hot
- Power toggle built into the power cord
What I’d change
- It would be cool if they had smart control features
- They need better quality control (upside down logo on wooden cube lamp base)
Final thoughts
If you like your home decor to be interesting and unique, the bulbs and light fixtures from EP DesignLab will fill that niche. They are LED light bulbs and basic table lamp fixtures, but the non-tradtional look of them will have your friends asking where you got them.
Price: $69.00 (Nebula with cube base), $89.00 (Blue with vintage base)
