REVIEW – As far back as I can remember, I have always had a fear of house fires. I think it may have to do with the destruction that I witnessed as a kid that was caused by a house fire. Since then, I have been very diligent in making sure that there are smoke detectors in just about every room. Later on, I found out that I had to deal with the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning as well and I started to invest in separate carbon monoxide detectors. Now I get to upgrade my safety again with this 3-pack of the X-Sense Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector with Voice Location.

The X-Sense Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector with Voice Location is a simple device made of plastic, that features the test/silence button, status indicator LED, buzzer on the front and the location setting button, and battery compartment on the back. There is also the removable wall mount bracket on the back. There are vents all around the unit for air and sound.
Setup/Performance
Setting up the X-Sense Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector with Voice Location is quite easy. First, you remove the mounting plate from the back, then you open the battery compartment and remove the piece of plastic that then allows the battery to connect. After that, you press the test button on the front and go through the location setup using the location button at the back. Just in case any of that is confusing, here is a video to show you how to set it up and how it works:
Overall, this combination unit is a nice design and they are easy to mount. The profile is nice and thin enough so it does not over-protrude or look obnoxious. They come with the battery installed so they are good to go right out of the box. Setting up the location is easy but is limited to only be configurable to the following locations:
Connecting the X-Sense Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors with Voice Location together wirelessly is also straightforward and easy and worked on the first try. While the feature of a combination of smoke and carbon monoxide detector is great, the feature that I like most is the voice announcement of the location. If you wake up in the middle of the night and unfortunately the detector alarm is going off, it will tell you exactly where the threat is.
However, I do think that there is a missed opportunity with this device. I would love to see the ability to connect to your home wireless network and an integrated APP. Imagine the ability to be notified while away from your home that there is an alarm and you are able to tell the responding emergency crews and/or a family member exactly where the problem is.
Otherwise, these are nice devices and a good value.

- WiFi connectivity and an APP would have added great value to the devices
- The ability to set custom locations
Final thoughts
The X-Sense Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector with Voice Location is a sensible and valuable device that can be a lifesaver. While I do think that more can be incorporated into the functionality, having these around your home is essential and a good value at this price point.
