The Grandfather Backpack Case is a hard-sided briefcase — box shape, clamshell opening & reinforced corners — that adds extra padding on the backside along with shoulder straps for backpack mode. There’s a beefy side handle so you can carry it like a briefcase, and a second handle on the top to help you sling it around when traveling. Stainless steel feet on the bottom and side keep your leather from getting nasty when you put the bag on the ground. The interior of the case has two 9″ by 7″ pockets that close with clasps to organize your loose stuff, while the overall interior dimensions (14.75″ by 12″ by 4.75″) leave plenty of room for your business or travel needs. It’s a beefy boy at 9 pounds unloaded, but that’s what you’re going to get with the use of top-quality leather and hardware.

Love the look, but at 9 lbs, it’s like dragging a side of beef with you everywhere you go. Still, it more functional than trying to stuff a laptop inside a kettlebell.
Yeah… that’s the thing with Saddleback bags. They’re built to last forever, but the extra weight comes with the territory.
I have this bag and like it. I’m the size of a small offensive guard, so the weight doesn’t bother me. The bag gets compliments wherever I go.
It really does look good. I kinda want the design to be vertically oriented, opening from the top… how does it work in practice?
