There are a lot of fitness trackers on the market to encourage adults to work on their fitness, but there hasn’t been such a product for children before now. LeapFrog’s new LeapBand is a fitness tracker for children ages 4-7 that encourages active play and healthy habits with a customizable pet pal. Audio instructions help non-readers follow challenges to earn points that can unlock other features. Your child picks a virtual pet and learns about nutrition while learning how to feed the pet; grooming, feeding, and caring for the pet earns points to unlock other features and pet accessories. If your child already owns other LeapFrog toys, being active can unlock play on other LeapFrog devices. The LeapBand comes in blue, green, or pink version. It has a rechargeable battery, and parents can set school and quiet time modes so kids can’t play when they should be working or sleeping. The LeapFrog LeapBand sells for $39.99 and will ship in early August.
