The holiday gift-giving season is coming quickly, and Roddenberry Entertainment has a perfect gift suggestion for the Captain in your life (especially if it’s you).  Captain Kirk’s own chair was built by surrounding a Danish chair with a plywood enclosure and equipping it with incandescent lights for the buttons.  These Star Trek TOS Captain’s Chair replicas are designed after carefully studying the original prop.  They have walnut laminate on the arms, but the heat-producing incandescent buttons have been replaced with cooler LEDs.  The plywood body is now covered with a color-matched gray laminate, so it will be more scratch-resistant than Kirk’s painted chair.  Each is hand-made to order and takes about 6-8 weeks to build and prepare for shipping, so you better order now for the gifting season.  This is no scale model; it’s a full-sized chair that you can sit in whenever you have the conn (supports 250-300 pounds).  It costs $6499.95, but it’s a vital piece of equipment for your five (fifty?) year mission to seek out new life and new civilizations – or at least a good TV show.

Will this be an upcoming contest Julie?
@Andrew ha! I’d keep it for myself 😉
For that price I expect those buttons to actually fire torpedoes or to communicate to Scotty to beam me into a bank so I take out a loan to pay for the chair. They should design it Ikea style, charge $64.99, and I’ll build it myself! =D
I’ll hand over my dough when someone can come up with a holodeck 🙂
