There are all sorts of activity monitors and pedometers on the market right now that will show humans how active or non-active they are. Now your pets can get some of that action, with new features from Tagg. We featured Tagg’s the Pet tracker back in 2011 and found it to be an interesting way to keep tabs on Tabby or Spot while they are outside. The collar module has a built in GPS that alerts owners when their pet leaves a predetermined zone, and now you can use that same module to find out your pet’s activity level using easy to understand charts. Charts include a daily activity snapshot, monthly and 90 day charts. Your pet’s movement is turned into points like a Nike Fuel band, and shown as either resting, light activity, moderate activity or high activity. Using this data can help you keep your pet healthier. The Tagg Pet Tracker is available now for $99.95 which includes 3 months of free service. After 3 months, you will be charged $7.95 per month. You can cancel at any time.

This is a very cool product…except for the monthly fee. That is going to be the turn-off for most owners.
Who is going to pay $8 a month to see that all the cat does all day is sleep 🙂
What they need is a model where all the activity data is free, but the owner pays (say $50) to turn on tracking when one wants to find the pet.
Yeah I was interested until I saw the monthly fee. Definitely not worth $8 a month.
Of course, if the company is thinking that most who buy this will not be using it for their pets, but instead to track people…then the whole model makes sense.
Buy the $100 gadget, use it for however long, get what info they need…cancel the service.
BTW…we are assuming that this thing would still work when taped to the bottom of a car, or somehow hidden inside a briefcase or purse, but we don’t know.
