Shopping for a drone under $100 can get confusing quickly. Product listings promise HD cameras, long flight times, automatic tricks, and stable hovering, making an inexpensive quadcopter sound surprisingly close to a much more expensive camera drone. In practice, the gap is much larger.

At this price, the most useful drones are primarily training and recreational aircraft. They can teach you basic flight controls, let you experiment with first-person-view flying, and capture casual photos or video. What you generally won’t get is a mechanically stabilized camera, reliable performance in strong wind, sophisticated obstacle avoidance, or the precise GPS positioning associated with more expensive camera drones.

That doesn’t make inexpensive drones useless. It simply changes what you should expect from them. Instead of asking which $100 drone can replace a DJI, it makes more sense to ask which inexpensive drone performs a genuinely useful job. These five stand out for different reasons.

1. Holy Stone HS110D: For learning camera-drone basics

The Holy Stone HS110D combines conventional controls with altitude hold, helping beginners focus on direction without constantly adjusting height. Headless Mode simplifies orientation, while the app adds live FPV viewing, trajectory flight, gesture controls, and gravity-sensor control.

Holy Stone lists the drone at 149 grams with a fixed, 120-degree camera. Its 1080p claim applies to TF-card recording; smartphone recordings are 720p. Without a mechanical gimbal, that resolution doesn’t translate into smooth, stabilized footage.

The two included 3.7V 1000mAh batteries are rated for up to 10 minutes each, or 20 minutes combined under ideal conditions. Wind and flying style affect endurance. Holy Stone rates control range at 150 meters outdoors in unobstructed conditions and FPV range at 100 meters. These are signal specifications, not recommended flying distances: maintain unaided visual line of sight and follow local flight rules. A camera feed does not replace visual contact.

Unlike the HS110G, the HS110D has no GPS. Think of it as a basic camera-equipped FPV trainer, not an aerial-photography platform.

2. SEKOsamrt TT19LCD: For FPV practice with a built-in screen

The SEKOsamrt TT19LCD’s main draw is its controller’s built-in 2.8-inch display. The seller says it shows a live camera feed without a smartphone and supports TF cards up to 32GB for recording. Folding arms, a carrying case, and a rechargeable controller make it a compact option for casual flight practice.

The listing specifies a 180-gram body and 1080p video, and advertises brushless motors, optical-flow positioning, Headless Mode, one-key takeoff and landing, and three speed levels. Its claimed 270-degree obstacle sensing is untested here, not a guarantee against crashes. An adjustable camera also isn’t the same as a mechanically stabilized gimbal.

3. DEERC D20: For basic FPV and documented replacement parts

The DEERC D20 pairs beginner-oriented controls with Wi-Fi FPV for inexpensive live-camera practice. DEERC provides a D20 beginner guide, but variants such as the D20-1080P have separate support material.

Its practical advantage is documented parts support. DEERC lists replacement propeller guards, propellers, gears, motors, charging equipment, controllers, and batteries for the D20. Its 3.7V 500mAh battery with USB charging cable was listed at $10 and marked out of stock when checked on October 7, 2026.

Some parts are out of stock, so confirm availability before buying. The D20 is a basic FPV trainer with identifiable replacement components, not a choice for image quality.

4. Syma X710W: A folding option to watch for a restock

The Syma X710W pairs a portable folding body with a 1080p FPV camera and optical-flow positioning. Syma lists Headless Mode, trajectory flight, gravity control, speed switching, and 3D flips, plus two batteries rated for up to 24 minutes of combined flight time.

The camera suits casual flight recording, not polished travel footage. A 1080p label alone doesn’t mean mechanical stabilization, better dynamic range, or wind resistance.

5. Ryze Tello: An educational option if you can find one

The Ryze Tello’s main appeal is educational: its SDK and Scratch resources let students and hobbyists explore coding alongside manual flight. Official specifications list an approximately 80-gram body, 5MP photos, 720p/30fps video with electronic stabilization, and up to 13 minutes of flight under test conditions. Its rated 100-meter maximum distance is not a recommended flying distance; maintain unaided visual line of sight and follow local flight rules.

A legitimate Tello in good condition below $100 offers positioning support, electronic stabilization, and coding tools. Check battery condition and accessory availability before buying.

Which drone under $100 should you buy?

Start with the skill you want to learn rather than the largest camera-resolution number on the box. The HS110D pairs conventional controls with a basic camera, but its fixed camera and lack of a mechanical gimbal limit what you should expect from the footage.

The TT19LCD offers a built-in controller screen for FPV practice without a phone, based on the seller’s description. The D20’s documented replacement components give it a practical maintenance angle, although you should confirm that the parts you need are available before buying.

Treat the Syma X710W and Ryze Tello differently: both need an availability check before they become realistic buying options. Do not stretch the budget simply to obtain an older or hard-to-find model.
