Fit is the big change
Dusk is the first Moonwalkers model sized to a person's shoe size. It offers Small, Medium, and Large, covering US men's 4 through 13 and women's 5 through 14. The ranges overlap, so use the brand's size guide for your actual shoes. Shift recommends the smaller size for canvas or dress shoes and the larger size for sneakers, boots, or Crocs.
Dusk's announced weights are 3.5 pounds per shoe in Small, 3.8 in Medium, and 4.2 in Large. That's lighter than the original, but it's still several pounds on each foot. Think about stairs, transit, and carrying them between walks as well as powered movement.
How Dusk responds to a stride
Shift's SENSA gait system is designed to adjust assistance as your pace and the ground change. The company says it adapts to a walker's rhythm within 10 steps. We haven't tested that response. A left-foot gesture selects Indoor mode, while a right-foot gesture selects Shift mode, so the basic switch does not require a phone.
The illuminated edge is both visible styling and a cue for gestures and modes. Straps, outer plastics, and wheel rims can be replaced; Shift says the wheels take about five minutes to change with Allen keys. Charge time is listed at 90 minutes.
The redesigned Shift app is scheduled for late October, after the first pairs are due to ship. If route tracking and gait insights are why you want Dusk, check the app's actual release before ordering. The earlier Gadgeteer article about the original Moonwalkers covers the first generation. Dusk's sizing, lighter build, lighting, and updated controls are the reasons to consider this one separately.
At $1,199, the purchase depends on the route you intend to walk and how confidently you can choose a size. Shift's current product chart and launch announcement disagree on size-specific rider limits, top speed, and water-resistance ratings, so confirm those details for your exact size before buying.
