Tablets are convenient for watching movies, until you actually try using one around the house. You need something to prop up the screen, built-in speakers can send you reaching for headphones, and holding a large tablet through an entire movie is hardly comfortable.

The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 tackles those problems by treating entertainment as the main event rather than another item on the feature list.
Lenovo combines a 12.1-inch display with a nine-unit JBL speaker system, a built-in 360-degree rotating kickstand, and Bluetooth Speaker Mode, which lets the tablet play audio from another device. Starting at $399.99 in select markets, it is an unusual alternative to conventional Android tablets because some of that extra bulk goes toward features that would otherwise require separate accessories.
Nine JBL speaker units are the headline feature
Audio is where the Tab Plus Gen 2 looks most different from a typical tablet.
Lenovo uses a nine-unit JBL Pro speaker system with four tweeters, three woofers, and two passive radiators, along with Dolby Atmos tuning. The company calls it a cinematic audio system, though independent listening tests will ultimately determine how substantial the real-world improvement is.
On paper, the hardware is unusual for a tablet. Lenovo’s specifications confirm the nine-unit arrangement, expanding on the eight-speaker system used in the original Tab Plus.
There is also Bluetooth Speaker Mode. Connect a phone or another compatible device and the tablet can play its audio, essentially allowing the Tab Plus Gen 2 to double as a large Bluetooth speaker.
That makes it particularly handy around the house. You could leave the tablet displaying a recipe in the kitchen while playing music from your phone, for example, without adding another speaker to the counter.
The rotating stand makes the big screen easier to use
A 12-inch tablet becomes much more practical for entertainment when you do not have to hold it.
The Tab Plus Gen 2 has a built-in 360-degree rotating kickstand with wide-angle tilt that supports both portrait and landscape use. Rather than adding a folio case or separate tablet stand, you can position the screen directly on a desk, kitchen counter, or bedside table.
Lenovo also includes Standby Mode, which can turn the tablet into a digital photo frame or clock while it sits on its kickstand and charges.
The compromise is portability. Lenovo lists the tablet at approximately 775 grams, and while the main body measures 6.8mm thick, the substantial speaker section reaches 22.7mm.
That makes it better suited to moving from room to room and sitting on surfaces than spending hours in one hand.
The 12.1-inch screen gets brighter and sharper
Lenovo pairs the audio hardware with a 12.1-inch, 2560 x 1600 IPS LCD running at up to 120Hz. The panel supports Dolby Vision and HDR10, with Lenovo specifying 600 nits of typical brightness and up to 800 nits in High Brightness Mode.
That represents a meaningful upgrade over the original Tab Plus, which had an 11.5-inch, 2000 x 1200 display. The larger, higher-resolution panel gives movies, reading, and split-screen apps more room to work.
It remains an LCD rather than an OLED display, however. Buyers primarily interested in the deeper blacks and higher contrast associated with OLED tablets should keep that distinction in mind.
Dimensity 7400 replaces the older Helio chip
Inside, Lenovo has moved from the original model’s Helio G99 to a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor. Configurations range from 6GB to 12GB of RAM and 128GB to 256GB of internal storage. The memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded, but a microSD slot supports cards up to 2TB for additional media storage.
The tablet ships with Android 16. Lenovo promises two OS upgrades, taking it through Android 18, along with four years of security patches through 2030.
Lenovo is also promoting several software features, including AI Live Transcript for real-time transcription and translation across more than 40 languages. There is an important limitation: Lenovo says free Live Transcript use is capped at two hours per day, with additional use potentially requiring an in-app purchase.
That distinction matters because it keeps a potentially useful feature from being mistaken for an unlimited free service.
A 10,200mAh battery powers the entertainment hardware
The larger tablet contains a 10,200mAh battery, up from 8,600mAh in the original Tab Plus.
Lenovo claims up to 15 hours of YouTube streaming, but that number comes from the company’s own testing. Actual endurance will depend on screen brightness, volume, wireless activity, apps, and other settings.
Charging reaches up to 45W with a compatible USB Power Delivery charger. Lenovo notes that the charger is sold separately in some configurations or markets, so buyers should check exactly what comes in the box.
The Tab Plus Gen 2 also supports the optional Lenovo Tab Pen Plus. That gives the tablet some flexibility for handwritten notes and drawing, although the pen is not included according to Lenovo’s current specifications.
Who should buy the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2?
The Tab Plus Gen 2 is best for people who use a tablet around the house for movies, YouTube, music, recipes, reading, and light productivity. Its 120Hz display, nine-unit JBL speaker system, Bluetooth Speaker Mode, microSD expansion, and rotating kickstand eliminate the need for a separate stand or Bluetooth speaker.
The tradeoffs are clear: At roughly 775 grams, it is heavy, its speaker section prioritizes sound over portability, the display is LCD rather than OLED, and its RAM is not upgradeable. But that is the point. Rather than chasing a thinner design and leaving buyers to add accessories, Lenovo has built the stand and audio hardware into the tablet.
