Full disclosure: this isn’t a brand-new release. It’s been kicking around for a few years, and we’ve already covered TACRAY’s beefier sibling in our Tacray MP1 Review late last year. But with titanium EDC pens hitting a real popularity wave in 2026, from boutique names like Tactile Turn and Big Idea Design to a flood of new sub-$50 entries on Amazon, it’s worth circling back to the Mini and asking whether the keychain-sized Mini still holds up. Based on the spec sheet, the recent refill upgrade, and a few years of customer feedback, the case is a real one.
What it is
TACRAY’s Mini Pen is exactly what the name promises: a compact, titanium-bodied ballpoint with a bolt-action deployment mechanism, a lanyard hole at the tail, and a low-profile pocket clip. It’s built to ride on a keychain, hang from a necklace, or slip into the fifth pocket of your jeans without weighing you down.
At 3.50 inches long and 0.39 inches in diameter (excluding the clip), it’s noticeably shorter than a standard pen but still long enough to grip without feeling like you’re writing with a thumbtack. The whole thing tips the scales at roughly 15 grams, or about half an ounce.
Built from real titanium
The body is machined from Grade 5 titanium, the same alloy you’ll find in aerospace fittings, surgical implants, and high-end EDC gear. Gr5 doesn’t rust, shrugs off oils and sweat, and offers a strength-to-weight ratio that aluminum simply can’t match.
TACRAY also gives the barrel a ribbed, non-slip grip texture, which helps a lot at this size, since mini pens are notoriously slippery, and a smooth titanium tube would have been a deal-breaker.

A meaningful refill upgrade
Earlier batches of this pen shipped with generic refills that drew complaints about ink skipping and inconsistent flow, issues you can still see in older Amazon reviews. TACRAY’s response was a quiet but important fix: current units ship with LAMY’s M22 short refill in fine point. The M22 is a well-respected, compact metal-bodied refill originally designed for LAMY’s pocket pens like the Pico and Scribble, and TACRAY says the swap delivers a more comfortable writing experience than the earlier refill. Refills are also easy to find at stationery retailers, which is nice insurance for a pen this small.
To swap one in, you unscrew the metal tip; just make sure the refill is seated all the way to the bottom of the holder, or the bolt won’t engage properly.
Wears well, carries easy
The lanyard hole at the tail is what really sets this pen apart from generic minis. Real-world impressions skew positive: smooth writing, comfortable grip, and a form factor that disappears in a pocket. A smaller group of reviewers report skipping or, in a few cases, the threaded tip working loose over time. TACRAY’s listing addresses the skipping by telling buyers to seat the refill fully, but the tip-loss reports are worth weighing if you plan to clip this to keys that take a daily beating. At 3.50 inches it’s also not a long-document writer; think notebook companion, not journal pen.
Should you buy it?
At around $32.58 on Amazon (regular $34.30), the TACRAY Mini Pen is one of the cheapest ways to get a titanium, bolt-action, LAMY-refill EDC writer on a keychain. You’re not getting a Tactile Turn Mover at this price, and a small slice of buyers have run into refill and tip issues, but the spec sheet, the recent refill upgrade, and the brand’s titanium-EDC track record all point to a tool that’s at least worth a closer look.
