A manufacturing defect can cause the lithium-ion cell components to overheat, which could pose a fire hazard to consumers.
As reported at Android Authority, Belkin has received 15 overheating reports internationally, including two minor burn injuries and one fire incident in the US. The estimated property damage from these failures is approximately $37,765.
The models included in the recall are:
- Belkin Auto-Tracking Stand Pro (MMA008) – only units with serial numbers starting with “57X”
- Belkin BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K (BPB002) – only units with serial numbers starting with “35S”
- Belkin BoostCharge/Playa USB-C PD Power Bank 20K (PB0003) – all serial numbers
To check if your device is affected, look for the model number on the product label. For the Auto-Tracking Stand Pro, check the underside of the base. For power banks, check the back of the device. The serial number is a 14-digit code also printed on the product label.
If you have one of these products, stop using it immediately. Disconnect it from any power supply or other devices and place it in a safe, dry location away from anything flammable.
Do not throw the product in regular trash or household recycling bins. Batteries are considered hazardous waste. Contact your local municipality for instructions on how to safely transport and dispose of lithium-ion batteries and recalled electronics. It’s illegal in both the US and Canada to resell or redistribute recalled products.
Belkin offers two options for compensation. With a purchase receipt, you can get a full refund for the amount shown. Without a receipt, you’ll receive an average sales price refund. Alternatively, you can choose store credit at Belkin.com worth 20% above the model’s average sale price.
To file a claim, you’ll need to submit photos of your product’s front, back, and serial number. Visit the official Belkin recall pages for MMA008, BPB002, or the main recall information page for more details and to submit your claim.
You can also contact Belkin toll-free at 800-223-5546 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
No other Belkin products are being recalled at this time. This recall is being coordinated by Health Canada and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
