REVIEW – It might be summer, but to me, that’s just another word for Christmas prep time.  Lately, I’ve been seeing all these heavy-duty programmable string lights that can be left up year-round. I love the idea of hanging a string of lights up once and being done with my light display forever!  This led me to seek out the Enbrighten VIBE Wifi Modern Cafe Lights.  They are sleek looking, durable feeling and hopefully will save me tons of time at Christmas.

Design and features

The Enbrighten VIBE Modern Cafe Lights arrived in a big heavy box with absolutely no hardware to hang them.  It turned out that was OK because they designed them with a keyhole top at each light so you can use a variety of things you probably have around the house to hang them.  After experimenting with S hooks and zip ties, I chose roofing nails, mostly because I had them on hand.  The lights are fairly heavy because they have a thick acrylic shell protecting the LED, so you will need something fairly strong to hang them from.  They went up easily and that’s good, because I’m kind of finicky about the way I hang lights.  I don’t like saggy Christmas lights, and I like uniformity.  If I were hanging them over my patio, I’d drape more, but these were for in front of the house so they had to be straight with no drooping.

After I had the Enbrighten Modern Cafe Lights up and plugged in, I downloaded the app. I linked the lights to my wifi (which was straightforward), then explored some of the preprogrammed lighting schemes.  They have decorative displays as well as seasonal ones for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, fall and springtime.  Together, there are about 27 different pre-programmed lighting routines.  I tried them all, but with 4th of July coming up, I decided to use that one. Unfortunately, the red, white and blue pattern wasn’t working so well for the way I hung the lights, so I created my own custom display.  This involved digging a little deeper into the app’s menus, but it was an intuitive process.

This is the pre-programmed 4th of July lighting scheme. It didn’t really work with my installation, so I created my own, below.

Each light can be programmed with the Enbrighten Modern Cafe Lights, if you really want to do something creative.   I wound up making the lights red, white and blue in a repeating pattern with no blinking or dissolving.  Then I set up a schedule so they turn on when it gets dusky and off at midnight.  I set a similar timer for the morning hours.  You can also set up routines in Google Home or with your Alexa device.

Overall I think the Enbrighten Modern Cafe Lights add some personality to my front porch.  I think I would like it if they were a bit brighter.  They are visible at night but I think the blinking and fading would be more obvious if they were brighter.
