REVIEW – I’m reviewing the Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™ with a 40 inch wide and 26 inch deep desktop. This may seem comically small to some, but I have a smaller office (corner of the room actually) and wanted a premium electric standing desk with some cool features. Read along and see if something like this would work in your space.

Design and features
Electric standing desks have become more prevalent since the pandemic and the health benefits of not sitting all day have been touted. Basically, all electric standing desks have a desktop (in varying sizes and materials) and legs that are motorized. Besides colors and sizes, what separates the different electric standing desks are features and build quality.
The Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™ has some unique design features that I have not seen or used previously.
The first is the ComfortEdge™ front edge. I wasn’t sure if I would like the ComfortEdge™ but over the last month, I think I would want all my future desk to have this feature! My day-to-day job requires 8-10 hours at my desk working on my computer. With the Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™, I no longer get the edge digging into my forearms. It’s been something I didn’t know I needed!
But there is a cost, with the gentle slope of the edge, the desktop I was using was too deep and extended into the ComfortEdge™ space and therefore didn’t sit flush with the desktop and my forearms would catch the lip of the desk pad and would move the desk pad. And…..be aware that drinks will slide off…you are welcome for testing that feature. Still, I would get a desk with this type of front edge again!
Secondly, along the back edge, there is a slight indent to allow for cable to pass-through with the desk flush with the wall. This was another unknown but completely useful feature. As mentioned above, I wanted this smaller size to review as I wanted something that wouldn’t take up much space but still give me all the features needed. With the ability to sit flush against the wall, I gain just a little more space.
The Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™ is heavy, in a good way. With the desk raised to allow my 6’1 frame to work comfortably, the monitor and the whole desktop feel sturdy and secure. My other desk does feel a little wobbly at the higher setting.
With the Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™, a few extras are included in the box. A pair of heavy duty desk hooks are more than capable of holding headphones, backpacks, and other things you can hang to keep your desktop clear. Like the desk itself, these hooks are strong! A handy drink coaster is great at keeping the condensation from a cold one from the desktop. It’s rubber and doesn’t slide around. And lastly, a couple of velcro straps to help keep cables tidy.
Although I didn’t receive these items, I found Vari offers some accessories for their electric standing desks:
- Power hub
- Monitor arms
- Cable management tray
Assembly, Installation, Setup
As expected, the Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™ was delivered in two heavy boxes; the desktop in one and the legs in the other. I requested the Walnut/Slate finish. The top is one piece, solid (and heavy) 1 ¼ inch commercial-grade 3D laminate-wrapped desktop. I have an older standing desk that I bought during the beginning of the pandemic, and the top was ¾ inch and came in two pieces. This was one of the main reasons why I started using a full sized desk pads, was to cover the seam. With the Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™, no need! My older desk had the lighter “bamboo” look to the top. This desktop is the darker finish, paired with the darker grey legs…something different for me and I like it!
Following the included assembly instructions were easy, and I had the desk completely put together in less than 30 minutes. Warning – it’s advisable to have two people flip the desk due to the weight. The Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™ is built upside down, and flipping it was a beast. For a desk, I believe the weight leans into the quality of materials used.
It was great to see that all the brackets were already attached to the corresponding bigger components. Basically, it was snapping the brackets into each other and tightening with accompanying bolts. The control panel that operates the height of the desk can be mounted on either side (left or right).
I chose not to use the included feet, but purchased some rollerblade type caster wheels from Amazon to move the desk easily on carpet. On hardwood floors, make sure to get wheels with brakes or use rubber stoppers…taken from someone who moved from deeper pile carpet to hardwood floors.
Once put together and the control panel is connected to the control box and the unit is plugged in, you can pre-set four different heights. Unlike my older desk, a single button press raises or lowers the height (instead of having to hold the up/down button). I have found these settings work for me:
- Sitting position: with the desktop level with my armrests
- Standing position: with my elbows at 90º angle when typing
- Tucked position: with my armrests able to slide under the desktop
- Wife: set to her elbows at 90º degrees (I’m 6’1 and she is 5’7)
The Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™ is one of the quietest motorized standing desks I’ve used. My older desk had a noticeable “buzzing” sound when operating, and this desk is more like a soft whirling sound….I know these descriptions are subjective but it is quiet.
Final thoughts
The Vari Electric Standing Desk with ComfortEdge™ fits my space great! I have a a different, larger electric standing desk, but there were only so many places to put it without it getting the way of a door, closet, or window. I’ve pared down my desktop accessories too, allowing working at this desk to be more focused. A monitor, computer, keyboard, and mouse….simple and I’m able to sit down and get to work!

With the addition of the rollerblade type casters, I will be mounting a power strip underneath the desk to keep everything off the floor so it’s easier to move around. With a desk this size, options are a plenty!
You should try the ComfortEdge™…it’s a game changer!
