REVIEW – In a previous review I may have mentioned how vertically challenged I am (at 5’7” on a good day with shoes on). So basketball has never been my sport. But I love to play. Good or not. The ACCU LEVEL Swift Lift basketball hoop Hoop 44” finally allows me to play at home, and as the name suggests, make quick adjustments when my son wants to play as well.

Design and features
There is not a lot to talk about in the way of design here. It’s a basketball hoop. That said, it is an extremely well thought out basketball hoop. It’s the small things that make a difference, and they considered those small things on this. The transparent backboard looks and feels great. It has adjustment points for making sure it’s level in every direction with very little effort. As well as a wide main pole that keeps it sturdy and in place.
The main feature is the height adjustment, and it couldn’t be easier with a handle and a button. Press the button, and adjust. Again; so simple!
Assembly, Installation, Setup
The first thing I put in my notes was that all the parts were present and accounted for. Because these days that is not necessarily a given. The instruction manual was also very easy to follow with great illustrations for reference.
Often, with items like this, you put one thing together, and the next item to attach hardly fits. You end up pulling, pushing, and tapping lightly with a sledgehammer to get everything to fit together. That was absolutely not the case with this hoop. Everything fit together well with very little brute force applied. The hardest part was propping it on something to attach the backboard assembly to the main pole. A sawhorse would have been best. I used an empty garbage bin that was way too light and kept sliding around. And then getting it upright. I reflect that when they showed two people performing this step, I should have listened. That was the only part where the bruit force was needed, and it was absolutely my fault.
The included tools were pretty flimsy, but got the job done. Admittedly I only used them a couple times before switching to some real wrenches and sockets. If you have access to some decent quality tools it will make the job significantly easier and quicker. Just FYI.
The Phillips head bolts used to attach the level to the bottom of the backboard were pretty soft, and the head started to strip out pretty easily. There is not a lot you can do to improve this. Just be aware, and be careful when tightening them.
The base is filled with water, which makes it probably heavy enough to use, but they recommend adding 2 bags of sand to the base to further secure it down. So that’s what I did, and aside from being cemented into the ground, it’s as sturdy as can be.
Performance
So for starters, this thing lives up to its name tremendously! “Swift Lift” is exactly how I would describe what it’s like to adjust this thing. The adjustment pole sits just behind the main pole with a handle at the bottom with a button at the top of the handle right at your index finger. Simply push and hold the button, and move it up or down. That’s it! Now there is some effort required in moving it up and down. It’s not “very” heavy, but it’s not something my 8 year old is going to do. It also requires some height on the users part. Again, at 5’7” I have to reach a little when making the adjustment. It’s do-able, but would be easier for someone a little taller. The only recommendation I could make to the company here would be to extend the adjustment pole so tis a bit longer and closer to the ground. But it’s a minor criticism at worst.
I absolutely love the level on the bottom of the backboard in conjunction with the knob on the back of the board that slightly tilts the board front to back. I will admit, at first I completely forgot about the knob and was trying to put “shims” under the front of the base because the backboard was leaning forward too much. So once it shoved a bunch of wood under there and waked over to look at the level, I remembered (noticed) the knob. So I removed all the wood and just twisted the knob a couple times; perfect vertical backboard. There are also bolts on either side of the rear of the backboard in case it needs to be adjusted side to side.
There are also pads included to go around the center of the main pole and at the base. I guess so the ball doesn’t harm them? Or I guess in case you run into the pole. They are not doing much, but are a nice little detail none-the-less.
As I mentioned before, this thing is very sturdy. I am always concerned that these movable basketball hoops will be too wobbly. So I thought this one would be as well. But it really holds up. It doesn’t wobble when you shoot, and It didn’t even move all that much when I dunked on it. HAHAHAHA! I wish. I’m 5’7” on a good day with shoes on. There is no dunking happening at our house.
The backboard is transparent. I don’t know if there is any science on whether a see through backboard is better than an opaque one for some reason, but it sure makes me feel like a pro! I’m quite fond of it.
My only other gripe is not even with the product itself. I wish the company sold one of those return mechanisms that attach under the hoop and direct the ball back to you after you shoot. I’m sure you can get one made by another company, but I have grown to like this company’s products. I like how they design things, and I would rather get everything from a single source. It’s not a huge deal, but something to consider.
Final thoughts
At the end of the day, I’m not an elite basketball player that can accurately gauge all the tiny nuances of a product like this. However, I think that’s going to be true of most people that buy the ACCU LEVEL Swift Lift basketball hoop. It is a great basketball hoop that allows for quick adjustments for players at all ages and heights. I would definitely recommend this hoop if you are considering stepping up your game.
