Design and features

I love it when a quality product comes with its own storage case, so I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box for the BougeRV Camping Lantern and found it nicely packed inside an olive green colored canvas case. The case has a carry handle and a pocket on the side that holds the tent pegs and the USB-C cable.

The BougeRV Camping Lantern is a hefty little beast at over 2 lbs. It has a cylinder shape and is made of aluminum and ABS plastic, and it feels like it is rugged enough to survive many camping adventures.

The top of the lantern has a flashlight in the center that is surrounded by three buttons. There’s a power button, +/- brightness adjustment button, and a mode button.

The base has a USB-C charging port with a row of battery status LEDs above it. You can use the BougeRV as a backup battery to charge your phone or other devices.

On the bottom of the light, you’ll find the main power switch and a folding hook. You can also see the three legs that turn into a tripod when pulled out.

bougerv cl04 6

The reflective legs slide out of the body of the light to create a tripod.

There are holes in the leg’s feet that you can use to secure the light to the ground using the included tent pegs.

Let’s light things up!

It took me a while to figure out how to unfold the lantern heads because each head has a small tab at the end.

bougerv cl04 16

The tab slides into a slot in the base of the light to keep everything secured when the light is not being used.

To use the BougeRV Camping Lantern, you hold the base and pull the top to extend the telescoping rod.

You can pull a little, or a lot to adjust the height of the lantern. Here it is setup like a desk lamp.

bougerv cl04 9

And here it is at its full height of about 55 inches (including the tripod base).

bougerv cl04 10

Each lantern head can fold upwards, as shown in the image above, so you can customize the light.

The heads can also rotate 270Β°.

The lantern has a maximum of 3000 lumens (each head has 1000 lumens). You can turn just one head on, two, or all three for maximum brightness.

You can also switch from a 3000K temperature warm light, to a brighter 6000K temperature cool light.

In addition to using the BougeRV CL04 as a lantern, it can also be used as a flashlight. The specs don’t mention how bright the light is on the end of the device, but it has three brightness levels. Given the diameter of the light, I wouldn’t want to use this as my only flashlight, but it works just fine in a pinch. There’s also an SOS feature which is always handy to have.

Final thoughts

bougerv cl04 14

I really like the BougeRV Camping Lantern. Like I said at the start of this review, I don’t camp. But I have used this lantern while enjoying sitting outdoors at night, I’ve used it to help me run wires under my desk by pointing the lamps upward, and I even used it as a flashlight when trying to find my cat hiding outdoors one night. I think this lantern is well made and the flexibility of it with height and lighting makes it stand out as a light source.

What I like about BougeRV Camping Lantern

  • Compact when folded
  • Clever design
  • Height and light adjustments
  • It can also be used as a backup battery to charge other devices

What needs to be improved?

  • Nothing
