Design and features

Each of the TOSY Flying Rings are very light and easy to throw. At first glance, the plastic seems flimsy, but it was very durable and withstood quite a bit of punishment in our play testing. The outer edge of each ring has an opaque, rubbery rim that is very grippy and prevents the disks from sliding around on smooth surfaces. There are 12 LEDS evenly spaced and embedded in the rim’s material. The rim also glows in the dark after being exposed to bright light. On the bottom side of the ring there are two small nodes on opposite sides from each other. One contains a standard coin cell battery, and the other side has the control mechanism to turn the lights on when you throw the ring.

Performance

The LEDS immediately turn on when you throw each TOSY Flying Ring. Because they are very light, it took a little while to get used to the weight of the rings. After a while, though, we got used to them, and they worked great. The rubbery edge of the rings makes it very easy to catch, and it helps them stop pretty quickly when it hits the ground. If you like to skip frisbees off the ground, it will not work because of that grippy edge. My son tried to, and they just immediately stopped. That’s not a design flaw in my book, though, because I like the grip, and I think it also protects the mechanics of the discs as well.

TOSY FlyingRing 12

Catching a photo of one of the TOSY Flying Ring in flight is pretty difficult, but the effect is pretty cool!

TOSY FlyingRing 9

The lights on these are very bright and turn on and off very reliably with every throw.

TOSY FlyingRing 10

Another cool midair effect.

What I like about TOSY Flying Ring Set

  • Easy for everyone in the family to throw and play with
  • The LEDS are very bright and easy to see when you’re throwing them, whether it be daytime or nighttime
  • Very durable. These rings took quite a bit of abuse as we played with them in our cul-de-sac. No cracks or breaks in the rings themselves, even after some wild throws and landing in puddles and snowbanks. The blue ring stopped lighting up after about an hour of play, but I don’t think that’s an issue with the rings, more just an after-effect of hard play.

What needs to be improved?

  • Nothing. Simple and fun.

Final thoughts

The TOSY Flying Rings are a fun set of flying rings / frisbees. I was not anticipating it to be a three-pack, so that was an added bonus. They held up to being dunked in puddles, being thrown into a tree, landing in a snowbank, and general teenager nonsense. These are a great addition to play outdoors with friends and family.
