REVIEW – I haven’t used a desktop computer as my main computer in probably over a decade, maybe more.  The convenience of a laptop is just too useful for me to be tied down to a desktop. But the small screen real estate is something that you live with when you choose to work with a laptop. I have used the SideTrak Swivel monitor that attaches to your laptop screen for about 2 ½ years now and it’s super convenient when I need that extra screen space. But we could always use more, right? The QQH Triple Monitor purports to solve my desire, so let’s see how it works!

What is it?

A self-standing dual monitor gadget that can be connected to your computer and used in various configurations to provide either 1 or 2 extra screens.

Design and features

The dual monitors are attached together in 1 complete unit that kinda folds open like a clamshell. As you can see from the pictures, the monitors sit to the left and right, with a connecting support piece in the middle that has the kickstand on the back. The support piece and the monitors are encased in plastic, and the kickstand is made of metal to provide some weight on the back to hold the whole thing upright when fully opened, and includes a non-slip tip where it touches the desk. On the bottom of each monitor you’ll find a ‘menu’ button with a plus and minus key to give you access to the various settings for the monitors, such as brightness, contrast, etc.  On the right monitor you’ll also find a power button that turns the whole thing off and on.

Behind the right monitor, sitting on the edge of the middle support piece, you’ll find 2 USB-C ports.  The port closest to the corner of the unit is strictly used to supply power to the QQH in the event that the computer you are using it with doesn’t have enough power output from the computer’s USB port to power the QQH. A 5 ft USB-C to USB-A cable with power brick is included for this if you need it.

The USB-C port next to the first port is used to connect to your computer with the included USB-C to USB-C cable that is a little over 3 ft in length. And in the event that your computer doesn’t have a USB-C port, there is a USB-C to USB-A adapter attached to the cable for your convenience. Finally, at the top of the middle support piece has an integrated handle to make it a little easier to hold the whole thing are you setting it up.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

It’s important to mention at this point that, unlike many other portable monitors for laptops, the QQH triple monitor does not attach to your computer at all, it is free standing.  The SideTrak Swivel monitor that I mentioned at the outset does attach to my monitor via a magnetic plate that is stuck on the back of my laptop screen. So it hangs off my laptop screen and I have to be careful to adjust my screen so it doesn’t cause my laptop fall over. But the QQH is free standing as you can see in the pictures below. So I simply sit my laptop in front of the QQH. My laptop has a 15.6” screen, so it overlaps the sides of the QQH monitors just very slightly. I added a picture of that below so you can see that. I can see that if you had an even larger laptop, like one of those 17 or 18 inch monster laptops, the QQH probably won’t work.

My laptop had enough power to enable the QQH to work without using the QQH’s power cord, however, the tradeoff is that doing it that way can drain your computer battery if it’s not plugged up to power itself. And the Full HD monitors do use quite a bit of power, so I do recommend either having your laptop plugged up to power, or use the power cable and brick that came with the QQH.

The QQH comes with a nifty dual USB-C/USB-A stick that came preloaded with display drivers, so it was a piece of cake to navigate to the Windows folder and install the software driver I needed. After that, my Windows laptop recognized the QQH monitors and setting the display settings to my orientation was quick and easy.

The monitors have great color, resolution, and clarity, at Full HD quality of 1920x1080p.  I don’t think playing high contrast video games is going to be what you use the QQH triple monitor for, but it served me great to give me much more screen real estate to see more applications during my workday.  I should also mention that you don’t have to actually use both QQH monitors.  You could simply not unfold one of the screens and just use one.  Or, as in the picture below, you can even use one of the monitors in a stand-up portrait orientation if the need called for a tall screen orientation.

Finally, if I had to complain about anything it would be that the product didn’t come with any kind of carrying case or bag, which means I will have to find something that can hold everything together so that it doesn’t slide all over the drawers of my desk.

What I like about the QQH triple monitor

  • Great color and resolution
  • Multiple configurations is very useful
  • Light and portable
  • Good price compared to competitors

What needs to be improved?

  • It doesn’t come with any kind of carrying case to hold everything together. I expected at least a cloth bag.

Final thoughts

If you want an affordable free standing multiple monitor option for your laptop that doesn’t have to be attached to your screen, then the QQH triple monitor is a great solution.  The price is more than fair compared to competitors and it comes with a power supply and cord just in case you need it.  Not to mention the USB-C to USB-A adapter in case your computer doesn’t have a USB-C port. It is a free standing solution that does require a lot of desk space to use, so keep that in mind.  It is quite portable and will easily fit in your laptop bag, but I imagine that due to the desk real estate that it requires to be useful, most folks will use the QQH triple monitor in a semi-permanent arrangement that won’t be taken down very often. Either way, you’ll be happy with the configuration options and portability in the event you need to take it somewhere.

  1. Gadgeteer Comment Policy - Please read before commenting
  2. The one I ordered from Amazon does not have a sleeve, as you had in your box for the folded monitors. The monitors are 13.5″
Where can I get a sleeve?
    Thank you
